Building a 1956 Olds 88. Looking for ides on wheel/ rim selection. Like the class & stylish looks more than the 5 spoke SS or slotted mags. Stock hib cap offerings for that year are boring/ too granny. Will be running wide whites. Car color is blue/ white A though I have is colored steelies w/ beauty rings and smooth hub cap. Other thoughts? pictures?
your first two choices would look absolutely ugly on a Holiday coupe Olds. Especially with wide whites. so what is wrong with a set of fiesta hubcaps? steel wheels and a choice of many, many stylish aftermarket hubcaps. I like the chrome wheels pictured above great car!
Thinking chrome or painted steelies w/ trim rings and or caps is where this is going at the moment. For some reason the fiestas don't do it for me. Nothing against them, just not for me. Wheel vintques Series 10 smoothies or Series 12 with some WWW. Looks like Diamonda Back 3 has some nice tire selection. 53 Buick Skylark wire wheels are sharp. Not sure how they would look on the Olds. Any photoshop peeps?
Chrome/Chrome Reverse wheels all the way. Trust me....I made the mistake of buying Salt Flats for my Desoto and will be selling them in short order and going with Chrome Reverse.
A little creativity will go a long way for a different hub cap look, here's what I did for the 'caps on my '55 Cadillac...and no, that's not paint, that's exterior sign vinyl (the rim is painted tho)...vinyl won't fade or flake off... R-
Thats a GREAT idea! I gotta borrow that for the black on the dog dishes on my O/T Chevy II! Even though i sanded and primed, the paint doesnt hold up worth a shit!
Here's a suggestion: set a theme for your car, then pick the parts - including the wheels - to fit the theme. Too many guys fail to do this and their car ends up looking like the owner selected the components at Pep Boys...at night!
