The front springs are weak and need to be replaced, Gene is trying to find some new ones. He had the old ones re-arced, but it didn't do any good.

2 or 3 inches higher in the front would look pretty "period" cool. Any higher would start looking a bit hokey in my opinion.
I suspect the front springs may be original. If so, they are 73 years old & have taken a LOT of racing punishment. I'm sure Gene and Melvin will come up with a good solution pretty soon.

Here is a good video, the South East Gassers start at 10:20 and Gene is at 10:50.

Runs in the 9's like it is and you want them to change the height for LOOKS?

Just trying to keep it period correct, it's lower than it used to be. The springs are weak.

Yea we plan to raise it at least 1 inch. Like Frank said we have tried and she just don't want to stay up. It's almost to low to meet the Southeast gasser rules but it just squeaks by.

I used my main leaf and then added some speedway leaves under them to get mine to the desired height...just a thought.

It was a dare and we thought it would embarrass Gene but as you can see he kept his race face and just laughed.

  21. A double-dog-dare. What else was there but a "triple dare you"? And then, the coup de grace of all dares, the sinister triple-dog-dare. :D

Well, Patricia still has me load up this thread from time to time so she can read it and look at the pictures. I still haven't managed to get her to sign up on the HAMB so she can post herself. She asked me to drop a couple of comments on the Meltdown North Vs. South race for her.

The first is: A BIG CONGRATS to Gene and the other SE Gassers that won their races.
The second is: Quain, you can expect to get a big razzing from me (Patricia) if you show up at Knoxville Dragstrip posing in that pink T-Shirt again.

Next stop for the south east gassers will be Knoxville Dragway August 9th. Gene Cromer and The Moonlighter will be there so if you have never had a chance to see the Moonlighter in person it will be worth the trip. Qualifying starts at 4 o'clock Race at 6.

Danny, that picture is just surreal. Looks like Alfred Hitchcock could be lurking back in that shop somewhere ... lol.

Saw the car and introduced myself to Gene at the Meltdown this year. Pictures don't do the Moonlighter justice. The build quality is incredible and the action on the track is some of the most entertaining from the event.

Gene was a gentleman and polite and put up with my moon-eyed little girl like gushing as I shook his hand. Thank you for making the effort to be there. You made it a highlight for me and a lot of other racers and fans who have been following this build.
