I got into hot rods as a teen growing up in rural east Texas. My interests were in cadillacs and old trucks. I combined the two passions when I put a 500 caddilac motor in a 63 GMC pickup. Man, I wish I still had that ride! As I grew up and went off to college, my passion for hot rods took a back seat to other priorities, job, wife, kids. Now my sixteen year old son and I are working on a 60 F-100, and we are doing it my way. I bought the truck at a right price,(free,) and have been building on a budget. We have bonded well during these times, at times I forget that he is technically a step-son. He now takes welding class at school, this sis besides being an honor student and football player. His friends are helping as well, and really getting hooked on american hotrods,(not the show-the cars.) I can't think of a better way to work with young men than in a shop, with classic rock and rockabilly playing, and all of us laughing and having a great time. Hot rods are more than just cars to us, they are a great hobby and way of life.
