My dad went out to go to work in his 35 Chevy (in 1950) and when he closed the door the window frames all fell out - seems I'd been out in it with a screwdriver, and I guess that's how it starts. Built models up until I bought a 28 A roadster pu somewhere between El Paso, TX and Silver City, NM for $25, it was missing only the rear fenders. I made it into a "A Bucket" with a 331 Hemi,49 merc trans, olds rear end. I think it's still around somewhere in So. NV. Worked (?) at Bellflower Auto Center (CA) and got to go to Lions, Irwindale,OCIR, Ontario, as these guys had a blown Olds powered AA/FMR. I lived on Walnut Street in Bellflower and Stone,Woods, and Cook had a shop just across Lakewood Blvd. There was a little shop just off Paramount and Lakewood, I thought it was Roth's, but someone told me it was Watson's - I bet I drove them nuts hanging around. Moved to Las Vegas in 1966, raced at Stardust Raceway and the old Las Vegas strip in a 51 Chevy Sedan Delivery with a 427 in it(it was white and I named it Moby Trick) and a funny car chassised "T" altered using Sherm Gunn's body. Built Corvettes, sandrails, an experimental airplane (KitFox), and now I live in rural New Mexico where there is still plenty of old iron just waiting for a new home.
When I worked for EG&G I was certified for unlimited thickness nuclear sub hull TIG and stick, plus TIG for outer space vacuum stainless fabrications. Probably can't see well enough to do that again.
Now I'm building a '50 Pontiac and a '31 5 window coupe with a flathead that was built in the mid 60s (the flathead) and been in storage until last year.
