My old man was the original hot rodder from which all others were made. I still respect and admire his ability to fix anything on the side of the road using nothing more than a beer can and a 6" adjustable spanner.
I grew up in a great family that all started there working life in the Auto industry. My first job was at the family business, an auto salvage yard in Armadale, Western Australia, where I learned to beat steel and paint, and got exposed to all the local rodders and misfits. I learned a lot from those guys, I guess you would call them peers, but if you said that to them, they would probably laugh and throw beer cans at you. I've learned to appreciate anything mechanical that has soul.... even a Chevy... so long as it has sweat, blood and beer in it. So I guess until they find a cool, fast, pig-fart-powered alternataive to the internal combustion engine, I will be harming the planet with Green house gases.
( I use public transport to commute, and sure hope that counts for brownie points at the pearly gates)
