30 Model A Roadster Build
From the other side, again, the thick white line is where the cowl would normally rest on a bone stock chassis. 10.25" is a lot!

I had a cowl that I took some measurements from (the roadster bottom has all been cut away) . Note the thick white line on the frame... this is where the front edge of the cowl would normally sit. 10.25" too short!

This is scooted to right where I imagine it would have to be to have the fan clear the radiator... still need a definitive measurement from a Hudson guy with a motor that isn't all torn down.

30 Model A Roadster Build
The garage is a little too cramped to really step back to get a look at the profile so I kind of walked around and took some pics of the Hornet in its future home.

It's hard to tell in this photo, but it looks like the worst of my frame twist is due to the left front side rail...

30 Model A Roadster Build
Got the middle crossmember out and decided to use the opportunity to roll the Hudson engine into position... but took a couple pics to show what I'm working with...

As I started tearing into the frame, I noticed that the front crossmember is shot. This is beyond just a small crack. It's more like a spiderweb and while I could weld it, I wouldn't trust it and the pitting here is pretty bad. It was also held on with bolts and not rivets which leads me to believe this is not the original member either. I looked at buying a new one but had a stroke of good carma this afternoon when I stopped by a restorer friend's house to ask him if he knew where I could find an orignal crossmember. He gave me a ride out to his secret stash and gave me my pick of five! I've got some original A parts I will never use that will make a good trade. Thanks, John! ...oh yeah, John also thinks he knows where I can find a driver's door! Crossing my fingers.

30 Model A Roadster Build
Old Bone's frame has finally made its way to the front of the line. I ran the serial number and it turns out this frame rolled off the assembly line in August of 1930. I wish I knew when my roadster rolled off the line, but the fact that they share the same ear is pretty freakin' cool! Several hours of cutting and grinding stripped off a lot of stuff I won't be using. The rivets are giving me fits, but once I get them all out, a buddy is going to blast all the pieces in exchange for some Chevy truck parts. Sweeeeet.
