I just picked up a 345 Desoto hemi the other day all rebuilt and ready for some dressing up. It came with a 2v manifold that sombody threw on there just to paint it. What are some good looking intake set ups to really make this engine stand out. Ive seen the new modern style 4v intake on the Hot Heads website anyone using that? What about 2 four manifolds does/did Offy make anything. Give me some desoto Hemi porn!

Aren't they making modern intakes down under for those high deck engines?

The only 2x4 for the tall deck intake I believe is a factory cast iron job, good luck finding one. It would have had the dual wcfb carters.

Since no one has said this yet, it would look better if you sold it to me!

  7. It would look good in my shop with my 4x2 intake on it. I have a factory dual 4 intake for a 341 or 345 in my storage trailer.

  8. I have a pair of new, never used DeSoto finned aluminum valve covers from O'Brien Truckers. I'll discount them from whatever current retail is. PM me if interested.

Hello, this would look GREAT on a Desoto HEMI, if it's a low deck. This intake setup is available..

Open up this link and talk to this guy - he is in New Zealand and makes new high rise Desoto intakes in several combinations. He sells them in the USA
They are wicked and all of them have been received with great reviews.
O'briens use to make the rocker covers and there is a guy selling the aluminium finned valley covers from time to time on ebay.
This stuff is not out in the open in quantity but it is out there once you know where to look

four year old 345 factory dual carb hemi out of a 57 adventurer in the 40 back in 61. it was a real time machine. i have a 55 firedome in my 46 ford. chrome valve covers look nice.

  12. What are you doing with a DeSoto Hemi? Cool engine, just asking.

As George said, intakes -- factory or aftermarket -- are hard to come by for low- or hi-deck DeS. And that's a real shame, too.:(

But it's quite a statement on the HAMB Hemi crowd that you just posted at 9 this morning and already have nine helpful posts! Can't wait to see if Scooter, Gary, Tom, 345Hemi or SOMEBODY out there knows where one is.

Anyhow, when you said "dressing up," were you only talking about the intake setup? If you mean the whole LOOK of the engine, I lean toward pretty trad on the DeS. :p I do think BOTH the '56 341 Adventurer and '57 345 Adventurer blocks were painted gold (correct me, guys, if I'm off on the '57, please).

The only multi-carb factory intake was, indeed, the cast-iron dual-four Carter, AND OldHemi dropped a BIG hint in Post 7. Whoever you buy from, be ready to shell out some long green, though  -- the rarity factory, plus few makers for aftermarket intakes.

As avatars and pix hear show, triple-chrome on the stock valve covers looks awesome (WITH the plug-wire covers, nice DeS touch!;)). Besides the obvious small stuff (up to your personal taste), the big other item -- IMO -- is the headers, and what you choose depends on your eye AND what you're going to run it in. Again, there I vote for shiney, as in stainless (especially if without side panels, or completely hoodless), but you have to grease the insides so that they'll "blue up" evenly. (I think there was a thread on that within the last year).

Different tastes, but you asked for people's ideas and opinions, so there's mine. Great buy! Good luck! (How can you possibly go wrong?):D:D:D

Well.... A friend of mine had it built for him while we were in high school and never got around to fixing up the car it was going to go in. It has been kincking around his garage ever since and is still in the plastic wrap. He has since moved on to more important things and I made a deal with him for some work in getting a car running for him. Funny thing is I thought it was a 354 Chrysler all these years and when I got it home I said to my self "dam this looks kind of small for a Chrysler" so I cut a hole in the plastic and found the number along with the "desoto" front cover business. I would probably put it in my model A if it were on 32 rails.

Buddy of mine over here has three hemis in his shop, sitting covered in dust, one is from a DeSoto he hot rodded 30 years ago, and there are two others. I've asked about them here before, to see if it is worth blagging one off him, and been told they aren't worth a great deal.

The blue one is a 51-3 long tail, worth less than a thousand, but the chrome covers help. Works well with a tranny adaptor & manual tranny. What's the blower motor & orange one?

Vintage Speed has just made available a nice 4 in a row for the Desoto Hemi. Also, someone made an aluminum 2x4 intake for the Desoto hemi because I have one on my motor. It has no name on it so I have no clue who made it.

The one with the fake blower is the DeSoto from the hot rodded roadster. It was run for a while then swapped for a SBC, which I now have in my car, as the DeSoto is supposed to be going back into the roadster.

Not too sure what the orange one is, but he is proud to have 'one of each hemi', is what he told me years ago.

I keep meaning to get some more pics, and I was down his place today, but took no camera.

He does have some wierd and wonderful stuff he has collected or built over the years.

Well, if he's got four hemis and claims to have "one of each", he'd have a Dodge, DeSoto, early Chrysler, and a '66-'71 426.

There's only actually three hemis there, but two pics of the blue one in that 'collage' in my earlier post. I'll try to get some info.

Mr. Ford's engine is the one that came to mind for me when I thought of nicely done DeSoto Hemi's.
