I have been thinking about this problem for far too long.. I know eci makes a 90 degree deal.. kugel has 2 versions and wilwood makes a 180 degree.. are there others? any of the dragster guys build their own? fwiw. this will go on my next 40 an under the floor deal is out of the question...
What angle do you need? I've said it before, and I'll offer it again: Hospital sink-style foot pedals. Easy to modify. You could find them cheap from a building salvage operation or on Ebay. Otherwise, I've googled a few sources...might work out for ya: http://www.nextag.com/pedal-faucet/search-html http://www.plumbingsupply.com/footandkneevalves.html http://www.paragonmed.com/foot_pedals.jpg http://www.vetproducts.com/catalog/images/Sinkped.gif Is this what you had in mind?
I've got the Wilwood dual M/C unit with a balance bar in my A sedan and it works great. Gutted the stock gas tank and made a little framework for it.
i'm using that same column.. I don't think I need a pedal quite that long though I started drawing plans for something similar.. but was concerned about all the pivots being in single shear.. kevin. if you could bring it along next week that would be great.. I might be able to use either.. a 180 0r a 90.. ideally i think a 90 degree that points the master cylinder toward the driver side of the car would be perfect.. or a 180 that would easily accept gm style master cylinders.. the only thing I dont like about these is the pedals.. they would be very out of place in the car I am doing..
I made one for a friend with the same car as me (31 Chev). But when it came time to do mine I ended up buying a Kugel to save myself some time, plus I don't have access to as nice of a machine shop now as I did then.
Sawzall, here's a set I am doing in a 29 A. You could make the pedals as long as you need and could even make then look like 40s and put the round pads on them if you have the room. One master for the hyd. clutch, the other for the brakes. Yes, single circuit brakes just like a 40 master. If you have the room you can do dual brake cyls. with a balance bar.
Mike, Take a close look at the angle of the push rods on that setup. I had less angle than that on my S2D and hobbed the master cylinder after a couple thousand miles. Me and Rashy ended up driving from Chicago back to Dallas with basically no clutch. I showed you my Tilton setup in the A, I bet you could make something similar. 67Imp.wagon made an Ansen type setup pretty easy, I'll see if he has some pictures. TZ
Summit sales an Ansen look alike pedal set for $78. Part trd-4149. http://store.summitracing.com/partd...rt=TRD-4149&N=700+4294925230+115&autoview=sku Hard to build a set for that.
Not a good shot, but it's the best I could find from his mockup. This uses the Truck Combo Clutch/Brake master, but no reason you couldn't make it for individual master cylinders. You going to use that cool remote resirvoir??
Great topic. I'm in the process of putting peddles in my 32 pick-up.How do you get at the mc. to fill it?
tyler yeah,, thanks for showing me the setup in your model a.. believe it or not I think I have less room in the 40 than your model a! I think I single dual mastercyl would be best.. as for that billet remote fill...yes thats getting used.. just wait till you see how though...
I've got my mind set on trying this. Here's some of the 90 degree setups you asked about. this belongs to a HAMB'er 70's Dodge van:
at Kugel, but it's a little pricey - http://www.kugelkomponents.com/products/brake_systems/brakesystem.html
Here's one from ECI, cheaper than Kugel. http://www.ecihotrodbrakes.com/hanging_pedal_assemblies.html
Don't forget to mount mirrors and maybe a map light above them so you can see the fluid levels when checking them while lying on your back under the dash.
I remember someone who did this talking about a remote fill. Maybe hidden behind a vent or something? I have alzheimers, so things get foggy...
here's a pic of mine under the dash of the 32 booster is australian GM master cylinder is Toyota Hiace with a hand made reservoir on the firewall filler pipes hidden behind it used a billet GM oil filler cap on top
flt-blk, The rods have "ball-ends" inside the cylinder to allow them to do this without forcing the piston sideways. This set-up could be done with those straight but it would take up more room under there. That's why I like these CNC cylinders they allow that kind of misalignment giving more flexibility to the design. As far as filling the fluid goes, no mirrors needed. I use a remote reservoir that gets mounted directly under the old Model A gas cap. Unscrew the cap, then unscrew the res. cap and fill/check.
nz believe it or not thats exactly what I am looking for.. is the pedal assembly from a Toyota Hiace?
