Those pics are from the book "Birth of Hot Rodding"

Never cared much for the 40's-50's euro influence on our native tin (cut down doors), but in this case, I'll make an exception.

Is there anything sexier in all the world than a woman who has more passion for vintage tin and the knowledge to back it up than you do?

Not for this one fellas, not for this one.

AH HA!!! You're right! I can't believe I didn't realize that... It's one of the best hot rod books ever published.

I love those pics too..... from the Genat book as previously mentioned.....
There is another pic, in B&W, where a girl is obviously disgusted with the fact that all the guys around are paying more attention to the car than her....hahaha....it's great.....

I was just thinking of the influence of women in hotrodding, but in a more narrow sense.

I have always found ladies who are willing to either "help" in the shop or at least support the habit.

    It's a lucky scenario.

The second pic is of one of the younger sisters of a car club I believe. I think it says it in the book. They have a bitchin, Maroon 39 Merc 4dr vert with a carson top. They seem to be building that car as a club racer....

I like that pic because she seems to be vamping the guys... That's cool because she's the next generation of crazed hot rodders and she's ready to cary the torch herself...

    Cool pics...

When I see chicks in old lakes pics I instinctively start searching for the proximity to the nearest porta-potty... I know they only had a few out there and they had way more spectators out there than today. Must have made for some 'tense' moments on the silt....

Gals that are into cars are cool by me. Whether they rebuilt their carb themselves, or would just rather drive an "old car" instead of an econobox doesn't make a difference for me. That they are part of it is what matters. And those snapshots say way more than "hey, look at this girl by a car".

What I don't dig is chicks in magazines posing by the cars as some sort of accessory. A pic of a girl with car in the background can be a cool photo of the girl. I'm fine with pinups using cars as backdrops. Some of the models are hot, and the pictures can be classy. But I just don't think it should be necessary, if the car is cool and has the right proportions, for a girl to sell the car. If the car is cool enough to feature, then feature it.

And don't even get me started about spreads with porn stars with black eyes.

Sorry if this takes the post to far from it's intended line. I should just ad my "neato" and be done with it.

The girl in the second pic is Pebbles Flintstone:p

For me, these girls are a part of hot rodding, but not as much as the ones in the garage. There was a post on here a few months back, a HAMBer showing off his wife in the shop or something. Maybe involving brakes - anyway, it was a good post.

Working on my wife's 50 Burb is always more fun when she's outside with me, wrenching, painting, sanding........ good quality times!:D

I hope you guys get as much support and help from your girls as I do with mine!

  16. Those are also some of my favorites.

I remember seeing them when I did some work at the AHRF. I think Kilroy is correct, that she is a younger sister of someone in that club. The first may also be of her as well. I searched through the AHRF site, but couldn't find those images. If I find them I post a connection.

It is too bad there aren't more shots of women. There were alot of timers that were women, of course naturally they aren't in the pics of the cars.

What I love about that picture how the curves of her hips compliment the curve of cut down door. Classic.

Lorene Sissom (in the car) was the wife of a local Dallas Texas dirt track racer back in the day. They would hold women's heats, and also do some women against men races for exhibition. I was told that she won a few of 'em to boot. Made the guys she was racing pretty mad. This was 1949 - 1951 time frame...

Heres an important one....not only were her shoes dirty....but i understand the right one was awfully heavy!
Veda Orr is probably a main point in the reason that hot rodding grew to what it did after the war and also a main inspiration to the beginning of "Hot Rod" magazine which is what helped open the eyes of america to hopped up cars, coast to coast

    dirty shoes = real

    high heels = fake

Fake is image without content and all too common. Kinda sad that Real is unusual and refreshing these days.

I love this picture. Hot rods, dry lake and a fine behind on a real woman (not a sprawling, pouting, tattooed Betty Page wanna be). Hot damn! Hubba hubba!

I've also heard that there is a complete biography on Veda Orr currently being written. She ruled.

Yes! finally. She was instrumental in keeping folks up to date during the War (mailing out the news letters and pictorials) and her efforts along with Karl were nothing short of amazing. More of this type of stories need to be done. Thanks!

By the way-- This is my absolute favorite vintage 'hot rod girl' photo:
(Check the airbrush monster shirt, cuffed redline Levi's, and the Sta-Lube box "body kit"... :D )
