Running mallory breakerless modual in a mallory dizzy, Mallory coil, and a .85 ohm ballast.

Ignition stopped giving spark, Weak spark from coil, will start run for 15- 20 sec. then shutdown

Changed ballast and when hooked back up
Did the same... Start, Run 15-20 sec then shutdown but now the resistor is smoking.
.
Electrical is set up per Mallory spec,

Any thoughts??? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Are you supposed to have the ballast hooked up? When I used my Pertronix Ingnitor, I think they said not to use the ballast resistor.

Just a thought.

I have had ballast resistors smoke some when they are new. But if they are burning out you have another problem.

Do you have a tach hooked up to the system?
If so pull the tach wire. Could be a short in the tach.
Don't ask me how I know. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Jump out the resistor and see if the engine stays running. The resistor is there to keep the ignition module at 9 volts, but you can run 12 for awhile without a problem. If the engine keeps running, the ignition module is probably bad.
I chased this problem on mine for 3 months before the module got bad enough for me to detect.
