Yeah, I'm a little younger than most in this way of life...but who cares! I'm 28 y/o...hoping I can get some knowledge from you guys (and gals?). I have a fairly level head on my shoulders, so hopefully I'll be able to lend some knowledge myself.
I've spent the last few years wrenching of Jeeps, going from the pavement pounder to the extreme rock crawler. I learned a fair amount about suspension, steering, axles, etc. I think I got tired of beating up the rig that I worked so hard to build. Now I've changed gears, and decided to try something different.
I picked up a '38 Ford Standard last spring. Its pretty close to original and that old Flattie purrs like a kitten! It runs great, and drives pretty well...except for the mechanical brakes (will be gone soon). I tossed the idea of a restoration around...only to realize that the die-hards will string me up if I stray from original. So the alternative lands me here!
My ideas at this point are...
Gently warm up the Flattie (Offy heads and intake are on their way), mount up a T5, new rear axle (not sure what), 4" drop axle, wide whites, and the list goes on!
Unfortunately the hospital gets most of my time (for work), but I'm hoping to make a push this summer and at least get the drivetrain up to par.
If you have any suggestions or questions for me, don't hesitate to contact me!
