I was wondering if any of you guy's have any pics of the mechanism used to make it flip open.
I'm in the process of doing the body on my '53, and HATE the gas door in the quarter. I wanna remove it.
I thought about routing the filler neck inside the truck, and thats not out of the question right now.
But another idea that might be cool is if i made the tail light flip to allow access to the filler instead. This way i don't have to open the trunk every time i need gas, and i don't have to worry about venting in the trunk.

Even if the '56s are out of the question, it may give me some ideas on making my own http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
otherwise, it's goin in the trunk..gotta get rid of that door...

thanks,
Tony......

Thanks guy's.
CLSSY56, the pics helped.

If it works out i'll post pics.

Thanks again..

The lenses i'm using are the Lee bubble lenses that fit in the '54 bezels. I'm not sure if i'm going to use the stock bezels, or just the lenses and extend the quarters..

Either way i do it, i think i can make it open to access the filler neck..

I'm making my way back to that quarter. I finished the welding on the front of it tonight, so i should have a solid idea real soon.
I'll probably get to the gas door and tail light by the end of this week.

The mechanism to make it flip open is called gravity. The vertical trim piece above the left tailight lens twisted 90 degrees which caused the latch on the inside of the tailight housing to disengage, the tailight housing just dropped down (hinged at the bottom) exposing the gas filler. Pretty hot for the day but nothing very high-tech about it....
