Whats up everyone. First post since Detroit. Pinstripers auction was great. Ben, you're a lucky man and i am glad the painting of Gray went to the right home. Pics comin soon. Anyways, this tank has striping and air brush combined. It's what the guy wanted even tho i think the sides are sort of cheesy. I like the top and it is differentfor me.

As some of you might know, I'm a striper too. One of my biggest influences is our own Safariknut. So, I'm gonna take a post to brag on him and post a couple he did.
The red one is one that I bought at an auction. I still feel a little guilty in the fact that I stole it for a mere $35. The second one has a great story behind it. I was bidding on one of Safariknut's flying eyeball designs and ended up getting outbid... BY HIS WIFE! Safariknut being the ulitimate great guy that he is, did this wonderful blue panel, just for me. Talk about being a great guy. He did this without telling me. He saw me at another event and just handed it to me. If I'm embarrassing you Ray, TOO BAD!
You can get even by posting a pic of a certain frying pan...

Right back at ya Jeff;one of the high points of the weekend. You have WAY too much fun you know.BTW if you get down for Billetproof this year,I might be able to ,"find" one of those ,edged devices" we were discussing.
A quick anecdote:When my brother-in-law and I got home Saturday night and we were reviewing the day he asked me if you did anything else but draw those crazy characters you were doing at the show.I showed him the panels you had so graciously sent down to me awhile ago and he was properly impressed. Thanks again for them.
As for you, Mr.Vance: Thank you for the memories of that.Jan and I still laugh about her,"bidding war".As for the certain fry pan,I've posted it before but I guess we can trot it out again.Thank you again for it;people still comment on it when they come in the shop.

man, excellent posts this week!!!!
I just put the finishing touches on this commissioned piece for a hot rodder in Irving Texas. As a tribute to his Father and monument to the project he's currently working on, Mr. Stevens gave me the concept and the initial design and after much skecth tweaking and brain twisting, we came up with this very unique piece. Mr. Stevens is constructing a vintage race car that will house the engine you see in the painting. The arms are actually floated above the block....crazy man!

I believe that anyone who has spent any time with Ray OR Jan has some stories. Ray is a great man and artist and Jan is a wonderful girl and a great closet artist in her own right. I can't thanks them enough for all they've done for me. If it weren't for Ray, I'd probably never gotten serious about striping.

The panel is 1/8" thhick plexi. I used one shot to paint the pin-up and the lettering on the front. then i striped the back side to give it depth. Finally i used some spray cans to do the fade on the back side starting from the outside with red to yellow on the inside. Time consuming for a panel

you just got to find your own style. if it happens to be the same as mine, great! its all about expression and that is the way it comes out of me. i didn't force it. if i have to force, i stop. move on and come back to it later, or start over. i have 20+ unfinished pieces that i just wasn't feeling at the time. i might finish them, i might not. its not about copying someones style, its doing whats right for you. i hope you enjoy doing them that way, the results are nice.

man, the image quality sucks. Am I missing something? how do you post a nice big clean file? thx
Judging by your PSD document in the first post, You're using Photoshop. Here's what to do:
Step 1: Go here (http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=18) and tell us who you are. (This is linked at the top of Page 1 on the list of posts in the main HAMB board.)
Step 2: From the "File" menu in Photoshop, choose "Save for Web...".
Step 3: in the resulting window, play with the settings to the right hand side of the screen. You can see your original and compare it with one or more other examples of the compression you're applying. For Art Show stuff, JPEG usually works best... but sometimes GIF may be better. Also, click on "image size" (also toward the right of your screen) and make sure the largest dimension is around 600 pixels. Just below the window pane showing the adjusted image, you'll see the file size you'll end up with if you choose the current settings. Keep this under 70 k, under 50 k is better for those who are still using phone line modems.
Step 4: Save the file somewhere on your HD.
Step 5: Start your post on the HAMB. Attach the file, or if you've uploaded it to a photo hosting site like Photobucket, Image Shack, Fotki, Flickr, etc., link it there. If you attach the photo, it will show up in the thread as a small thumbnail that you can click on, which will load the full-size image in a new window. If you link it from a hosting site, it will show up right there in the thread as whatever size you made it in "Save for Web".

RapRap here,
Some of the pics are photoshop'd and the others are raytraced from a solid model. High res quality. When you save the image(no matter how big it is),I saved it at 8" across @ 72 dpi. Originally, they were 14" wide at 300 dpi.
The solid modeled one were much larger at their original size.
Thank for the comments!

My first ever Friday art show post. So please be kind in your comments.
This is a sticker I am doing for the Viper's project race car. It is an early draft. I know the tire smoke will have to be redone and also I am using a very old pic of the Coupe. There have been several changes to the car since this photo was taken. Most noticable is that we have chromed the fender blisters.
Constructive criticisms are welcome and thank you in advance

Striped some neat motorcycles for the show next weekend but didn't get any pics....next weeks show maybe... only thing I got pics of was a new tool cabinet I striped, "real" flames by Jason Gateman of RNR Cycle in Guelph.

Long time lurker - first time contributor. Just a couple examples of what I do. A little photochop and a decal design.
Good job, Spaulding. Hope you'll post more soon! :D

Friday art show rules! Love to see all the great work you guys do! Many of you have already seen earlier versions of this before, but it's getting much closer to "finished". I've refined the scallops a bit, and have been playing with the paint effects. Still need to finish the interior. I plan to put the traditional tuck-n-roll pleats in it, with maybe some colored piping. Tempted to try some louvers in the hood too.

Cane for my dad while he recovers from hip replacement. It's gotten some good reviews from the hospital staff.

Heres one of three bugs I have made from old motorcycle gas tanks. I call this one Japanese Beetle. Also a spider made out of large machine nuts about 16 in in diameter. I am currently working on one fron a harley tank. One is being displayed at a local tattoo parlor. They are available. I hope you like it. I don't have pics of the other ones...yet! If you would like to see pics, or are interested in one, get to me at hammer_dolly@yahoo.com Thanks

So, how often do you accidentally "put out" the cabinet? :) I love the realistic flames... have ever since I saw them on a Road King about eight years ago... very cool.
