I was concidering using the original steering gear on my next 32 project. I have a beautifull stock frame with the origanal steering and it seems to work just fine.
It sure would make life eaiser. I will be running a 42 flathead and 39 box mated to the stock x-member ect.
I'm just wondering why the f-100 steering was used more often on this type of build and no mention as to why the 32 box wouldn't be used.
Lets say 40's era is the style of car I intend to build so I don't think they were using the truck boxes then anyway. I'll be the first one to admit I don't know everything about how they were done in "The Day" but thats why I have the HAMB for reference.

Thanks

I'm running a stock Deuce box in the Sport coupe. I like the H/L switch and locking column. I'm guessing most of the 32 boxes were worn out before they got to the hot rodders in the 50's. The truck boxes were new and a better design. Probably cheaper than rebuilding a 20 year old design. The Grant style 14" wheel was a popular hot rod item that made things worse.

You can get the sector shaft housing bored out to take roller bearings and a seal and replace the rubber shaft bushing with a ball bearing to reduce the drag. I need a sraight shaft to finish this replacement for the coupe.

I would like to know more about that update bearing deal. sounds like the way to go. My box seems fine and tight. Thats why I though I would like to use it.

No I sent it out and had it done. You might try Hemmings for an address. I had this chrome one so they did mine. I'll try to find their card but I'm not very organized. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
