Hey retard with your skills...have daddy remove the tank. take the tank to a radiator/tank shop and have them clean and seal it! Remember the year it took you not to finish your brakes?..think before you try it http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Zor you might move away but youll always have an asshole brother in Florid!!!

hey Zor, as draglinkscc said, hit the local radiator shop and have it done right. i made my own tank out of 16 gauge sheet steel to go behind the seat of my 30 A coupe, and i took it to the radiator shop at the same time i had the radiator made. they sealed it for me with a red colored rubberized material of some kind and they really put it on nice and thick and it works perfectly...cost for the sealer, $50.00, can't beat the price, especially for a tank that's trouble-free. good luck with it, mike

If the tank is clean and you wanna do it your self, bike shops sell stuff called "cream". it's three parts and works great on bikes.....

It works great but will take all friggin day to do it. You move the mixture around inside to coat all of it and then let it dry some, move it around again to coat and dry some more, etc. etc.

Be sure the tank doesnt have any big holes that need brazed before you put it in because it will flake off with heat (dont ask me how i know this http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif)

I used Eastwoods gas tank sealer kit on my '51 Ford Sedan. Worked great, but damn, the chemicals to clean it were pretty bad. Nothing like muriatic acid to put some fun in the day. It worked great, but I would have liked to use something without the harsh chemicals in it. The inside looks good and they sell a smaller kit for motorbike tanks too.

If you do take the tank to a shop, make sure that it is a reputable shop.
I took a tank to a shop that wasn't and I got screwed. They patched a few holes, sorta cleaned it out, dumped that thick red sealer in, charged me $80, and FUCKED my shit up. The tank began leaking again soon afterwards....
That sealer ISN'T a sure fire cure for leaky gas tanks. From what I have seen, the tank needs to be damn near perfectly clean before that stuff will stick right. Mine had bits of rust still in it as well as many pin holes. The Red stuff LEAKED. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Be warned.

I forgot to add that In my opionion, unless your gas tank is in real good shape, you are going to be wasting money having it patched.

New gas tanks that I have looked at are mostly around $150.00. You are going to spend near $100 just having the thing cleaned, patched, and sealed. Then if it leaks again >WHAM< You gotta spend more money on a new tank.
Be like The SURFERS and eliminate all possibilities of problems from the beginning. Buy a new replacement tank and rest assured that the thing will not leak.

Just my opinion.

Anyone ever try dipping carb floats in that stuff? Just wondering as it seams as if it would be a good way to prevent float problems.

Zor go to your local Ace Hardware store and buy a quart of Spar[Marine]varnish.make sure tank is clean and dry.I cut a hole in top and bead blasted it white metal then cleaned and welded hole shut. dump quart of varnish in and slosh till all coated -then dum back in quart can for later use. it will need to dry a day or two then your good to go. yeah yeah- thats not the right way-BLAH BLAH- -Ok- read whats in the ingredients on the red tank sealer can and other than red dye you will see it has the same ingredients! only 7 dollars instead of 30....
