any machine shop owners or employees out there?

i consider myself a competent machinist.....problem is now i work at a shop with a anvil a torch and a welder, so im looking for someone to take on a side project for me ..

heres the problem:

bought a halibrand champ rear with a detroit locker, i want to put early ford bells on it , the adaptor plates i wanted to use i have been told will only work with a special narrow spool,

winters makes them but you have to use their diff and it maynot be compatible with a halibrand center, you guys know the drill

so... im sittin here looking at the race car bells thinking if i was back at the machine shop i could wip up some plates in no time and just copy the dimensions from the old ones , totally bolt on !

i thought about going to a local machine shop , but i think it needs to be a car guy to take this on as he/she understands whats going on

if someone has a c-n-c lathe i might be able to get a program made then it would just be a matter of an hour or two

nor-cal would be better so i could discuss in person, but might be able to ship also?

i'm in san jose and i have a 10"X36" Atlas and a drill press if you wanna come over and knock some out-george

wow! ,thanks for the offer, very nice of you but i think the diameter is around 14 or 15 " i know the ring gear is 10" by itself

i thought it might be a neat tech too but the problem is i think everyone might be differnt... appernently to get the proper tooth contact on the ring gear, you turn the bearing surface down on the diff, so im cheating in a way if i copy the old bells, in theroy i am just changing apperance not anything else, seems the easiest way to go about my mess i created for myself

to set the mesh of the pinion to the crown whel can be done using different thickness of gaskets!

If you brought them by where I work, we could bang 'em out in an hour or two. I'm about 2600 miles from you, though.

yes i know bout gaskets but thats only good for a few thou. if your going to be real picky on a banjo, with stuff that was meant to fit with each other i have a halibrand champ and speedway engineering bells and a detraiot locker and im not sure what all the mods that were done to make them fit

your right 2600 miles is quite a commute for a few hour work, i dont really need to be involved though if there is someone wherever in the country that wants to tackle it ,let me know ,i would like to get the dimensions as close to the old bells as possible wwith in a few thou.(gasket shimming tolerances) im not looking for any handouts either ,i just want to finish this dumb project-thanks guys
