O.K.....
Should I just get the f-150 rear and let it be???
[/ QUOTE ]
A 60 or so F100 should be close. And a pickup rear would and should have the load carrying wheel bearings ( the good, bigger ones ).
I would pass on the Lincoln http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Just my 2 cents.......

I think you might have got yourself a 9 3/8" or 3/4 whatever they are. I would probly go with a standard 9". I understand em a little better. O yeah, I should have your T-shirt ready to send out by Mon. or Tues...

The '58-'72 F100 9" rears are narrower than the '73-'90 F100/F150 numbers. If my sources are correct, the earlier models are 57" drum to drum, while the '73-'90 models are 58.75".

Look for the tag on the rear end. It should be bolted to one of the studs holding the carrier in....if someone has not removed it.
It can tell you the gear ratio, it's original application and that it is a 9 inch.

You can put a 9in pumpkin in the Lincoln housing. Think you need a little extra sealer around the gasket. Try www.nineinch ford for more info than you can use, its a good site. Or just PM FEDER.....OLDBEET

Keep in mind too, the Lincoln probably had trailing arms and coil springs...I believe the F-150's had Leafs...you'd have a bunch of cutting to do if you were expecting a bolt-it...OLDBEET is right, the pumpkins interchange, I believe.

Anything under a 20 spot is a good deal in my book. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Let us know what you come up with on the rear end...I'm curious as well.

Sounds like you are gambling your $50 away. Tell the junkyard guy to keep your $50 on "hold" till you find out exactly what you need and then buy only what you need.Do your homework first. Measure the rear that is in your truck and then go shopping at the yard.I went thru this when I wanted to find a 9 inch to stuff under my 51 Merc.Soooooo... click on these URL's as your homework assignment. Then go back to the junk yard.Oh, avoid 9 3/8 in rears as no parts are available. And the Lincoln Versaille rears have disc brakes and are way over priced. Most have hiway 2:75 gears. But if you do find one be sure and get ALL the emergency brake parts cause that's what adjusts the brakes. And it would be great if you find a 9 inch with positraction. A buddy of mine narrrowed a 66 Lincoln for a project he aborted. I bought the complete rear axle from him to go under my 53 ford pickup. He'd used 2 left side axle shafts and shortened the right tube to fit. The 3rd member was the original 66 Lincoln 9&3/8ths" with a 2.80 gear. Worked great.
I did tear up the spider gears in a 66 Lincoln 9&3/8ths by ingesting a little too much "stupid juice" and power braking the car. The right side tire made enough smoke to call in the epa. The spiders didn't survive.
