Wanna buy some soap? I've got a fresh box...

This shit keeps rolling around the country like a Barry Manillow concert tour! Pay attention wherever you live. When the doo gooders are done there, they'll pick another state to screw with. Same for the crush the cars for hazardus waste points jerkoffs. Take the time once in a while to write your representatives and remind them there are more important things for them to worry about than the special interest crap.

How about suggesting to your rep to put riders on the bill stating that any vehicle removed should be paid for at fair market value and the costs of disposal and enforcement be paid by the sponsors of the legislation since they are the ones who feel it's necessary.

Here's what I wrote. Feel free to plagarize...

I am a voter living in your district and am writing you to make sure you are aware of bill HB 4910. This bill, if passed, would restrict auto hobbyists from having inoperable vehicles on their property unless they were kept inside a building. If this bill is passed it would allow local authorities to declare ALL inoperable vehicles a nuisance and order their disposal unless kept inside. I am a classic car enthusist and own several. They are beautiful and important parts of American history, but they require constant upkeep and they frequently are inoperable due to repairs, or while I hunt down scarce parts. Other enthusiasts save cars from the crusher so that they can be restored and enjoyed by others. I couldn't tell you how many times people, young and old, have stopped me to talk about my cars and share their memories with me. This bill would destroy pieces of history and let memories dies, or restrict the ownership of such vehicles to the wealthy. I understand that some inoperable vehicles can be considered eyesores by some, but these issues can be handled in other ways, perhaps at the local level, than by a blanket law such as HB 4910. Please vote No.

Thank you,

Joe Wislar

If you think that's bad (which it is, tell your representative people) there is actually a local ordinance that says there are to be NO INOPERABLE VEHICLES at all in the city limits, garaged or not. And yes, I have been cited for having an inoperable vehicle in the garage, so I ain't full of it. Can you believe it has come to this?

Django,

Do you know if this would also apply to antique tractors? If so, all you Illinois guys need to tell your Old Trasher friends and make sure they contact their reps too. I'm in Iowa but will try to help by forwarding this info to all my buddies across the river. Good luck.

Here in Taylorville the city has been pushing this for a few years. There is a guy down the street from me that is a Collector/buyer (Not a builder so he dont have parts cars). He has a 51 ford dump truck that is restored and he has his buisness name on the side of it for advertising and the city Towed it because it doesn't have a license on it. So he had to pay a tow bill plus storage and now he put plates on it just to set in front of his buisness. The guy across the street from him runs a garage and there has been old stock cars and other old vans etc. setting there for years but they have not even messed with him because he is in the automobile repair buisness. Now does that make since??

Sorry to hear about Bill HB4910 is being considered....I believe SEMA fought a same bill in Mich. last year and was successful. Hear in Ontario, we just finished defending our rights againest Bill 22 which would have given police the right to pull your rod over and charge you with being a street racer if they found performance parts on the car, even race seatbelts fell into this area. It was great to see the brotherhood of car enthusiasts come together into one voice in the defence of this great lifestyle!!!Good luck!

Unfortunatly, this is the kind of legislation that will be on the floor while govenor Blagayol'bitch is in Springfield. The Daly machine has been working on this stuff for years, but withoput enough votes to over ride a veto from the govenor, they couldn't rear their ugly heads. I just Emailed my represenative this morning.

Good luck to all who find themselves defending in the future too.

Unfortunately Duane (Vesparex) the future will be a challenge for all of us who hold this lifestyle close to our heart!! What with insurance companies, environmentalists, bad press and miss informed politicians all taking aim at our pasttime it will be a bumpy ride but I truly believe this is a good thing because it unites all us together in that common cause to protect hot rodding for us and the next generations. I find in my back yard that it's the guy's in the new muscle/import cars that are in the public eye showing off most of the bad driving habit's and having the uneducated press tell everyone that these offenders are Hot Rodders! Keep the FAITH, we shall overcome because for one fact for sure....that Hot Rodders/Motor Heads/Car Nuts etc. are the very best people with giving natures....look back 50 plus years and this is history repeating...we have to embrace the same tactics as the rodders of the past and all become ambassadors of rodding, where we have to educate the non car person about this enriching lifestyle that gives back as much as each one of us takes out!

Well I fired off my e-mail as well as letting all my car friends know about it as well. I know my local Representative fairly well since he used to work in the same building as I. I will try to catch up with him and see what he thinks the chances are of this passing.

URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT

Illinois Introduces Bill to Further Restrict Inoperable Collector Vehicles

A bill (H.B. 4910) has been introduced in Illinois that would further restrict the ability of Illinois vehicle hobbyists from maintaining inoperable vehicles on private property. The bill removes historic vehicles over 25 years of age from a list of vehicles exempt from county inoperable-vehicle ordinances if they are not kept within a building. Under current law, a county board may declare all inoperable vehicles a nuisance and order their disposal. This bill, if enacted, would subject your ungaraged historic hobby cars to disposal and possible fines.

We Urge You to Contact Your State Legislators Immediately To Request Their Opposition to H.B. 4910

H.B. 4910 would give local authorities an inordinate amount of power in determining the disposition of historic project cars.
H.B. 4910 would make it virtually impossible for Illinois hobbyists to maintain inoperable collector vehicles on private property.
H.B. 4910 demonstrates a lack of understanding of the vehicle hobby and the rights of hobbyists.
Contact your State Legislators in Springfield immediately by phone, fax or e-mail in opposition to H.B. 4910. This bill tramples on the rights of vehicle enthusiasts and collectors in Illinois. If you need assistance in determining who your state legislators are and their contact information, please contact the Illinois Legislature’s General Information Line at 217/782-2000. This information can also be obtained by calling the SEMA Washington, D.C. office at 202/783-6007 ext. 38 or via the Internet at http://www.enjoythedrive.com/legislative/contact_legislator.asp

I wanted to add gang that when we were protesting our own bad laws (Bill22) up here in Ontario, one of the car groups formed a web site where they gathered well over 10,000 comments but it was also brought to our attention that e-mail protest letters don't carry as much weight as a hand written letter sent to your MP or in this cause your State Representative! I hope this helps! Keep up the good fight!!

Cheers F.E.
