I like simple tech ideas and this is a simple one. Ever try to get paint down in the deepest darkest recesses of your engine compartment with the engine and all the junk in the way? Well here's an easy way to do it. Just get the cardboard tube from your wife's paper towels and use it like in the pics. You put it down in the area you want to paint and spray down the tube. Works like a charm and don't cost a dime! Hope this helps, Dave

Depending on how good your aim is, you might need them to clean the overspray off your hand!:D

Or if you're careful, you can pull the tube right out!

I just wanted to add, probably self explainitory but it works with a spraygun too. Just turn the air and fan down.

Simple yet sill worth 5 stars! Thanks for sharing. I'm planning on pulling Big Olds's motor next winter to paint it and his engine compartment. Your "tip/trick/tech" will come in handy I'm sure.

Don't forget Aluminium foil as a neat quick 'masking' material for those bits you don't want to remove from your engine bay...a bit of tape and foil and everything can be neat as....

Cheers

What do you do about the paint that runs and drips out of the tube???

Neat idea for a black compartment if it's fully loaded... keeps the overspray off of stuff.... pretty slick.

I'd always wondered about the nozzle and tube off an unused can of wd40 or something... swap the nozzles, install the tube.... paint those hard to reach places....

Also, be sure to hit those places first. You don't want those "spots" of paint showing up on the bigger, broader pieces that are more noticeable.

I never had it run or drip out. It's really only for short blasts down in the hard to reach areas. You wouldn't want to use it all over the engine bay. But it looks like we found a good use for all those towels we pulled off the tube! Just keep the tube wiped out!;)

Material for a nice and cheap turban. Then you are prepered and ready to go next time it's "Muslim-week" at the garage or car club. :D

You must have read the Nov 05 Custom Rodder. It was in Painter pointers. Its a good idea.
