A friend of mine is putting a 66 Failane GT 390 engine in his 59 Ford Convertible. He is wondering what to use for motor mounts. I thought stock ones would work but he doesn't think so. Any ideas? Thanks for the help!

my buddy put a 390 in a 56 ford vicky and all he did was turn the mounts around and it dropped right in...I think the chassis is basically the same....

When I put a GT motor in my 56 Merc, seems I just turned the stock mounts around backwards. Don't remember if they were the 312 or the 390 tho. But I used stock mounts. I should be a bolt in, as 59s came with 352 FE motors..Header problems with GT motors sometimes.....OLDBEET

Sounds reasonable to me. I think the 56 and 59 frames are similar since they accept the same motors. Seems that the early model FE's had a 2 bolt mount and the later ones had a 3 bolt mount - not sure what difference that makes since I can't see them together. Thanks!

I've done this install many times and all you need is stock 59-61 mounts. It doesn't matter if you are using a crusomatic or C-6, stock mounts do the job.

If i am not mistaken..... the 59 came with a 352 in it. Should be the same block as the 390....

Pist-n-Broke is right on the money.

I put a 67 GT 390 FE into a 59 Ranchero and used the 59 motor mounts. The previous engine was a 352 which is also an FE.

An easy way out for headers is to order a set of headers for the 67 GT 390 into a 67 Mustang. This combo was a stock one from the factory so several companies made headers to fit.

In fact, I also stuck this same engine into a 62 Ford wagon using the same motor mounts.

On the Ranchero, the right side headers were a bolt on.
The left side required two minor changes to the front two primary pipes. That was with one brand of headers - don't remember which one.

With the wagon, a different brand of headers were used.
The right side was a bolt on.
Left side required a minor alteration to one primary pipe.

Both right side headers wrapped around the starter fairly close, but in 4-5 years of running this combo, I never had any starter problems.

It will drop right in. Unless the car was originally equipped with a six. The car most likely came with either a 292 Y-block or a 352 FE.

In either case the motor mounts are the same. FE's external dimensions and mounts the same from 1958 to 1978.
