There's a '64 Olds 88 station wagon here in town for sale and was wondering what tranny would be in this behemouth? It has a 2 bbl 394 with an auto, would it be a Slim jim or something else? Any info about the motor/tranny would be great.

Should be a Roto-Hydramatic. I had a 64 Olds Dynamic 88 with a 394 and that tranny. The engine ran flawlessly, and the trans worked perfectly. The previous owner of the car replaced the trans, and had a Hell of a time finding one.....and this was back in 1986!

They work great, and I loved mine...but replacing one can be a hassle!

Luckily, I never had a problem with mine!

yip its a slim jim or roto-hydramatic ....they are fine just expensive to rebuild if ya have to ....but then again everything is expensive right ????? i say go for it .....that would make a cool custom wagon ......

Although they get beat up on the HAMB a lot, those transmissions used to last a long time in Stock Oldsmobiles with no major problems as long as they were maintained. A friend had a 64 Olds with over 160,000 miles on it and the original trans was still going strong.

They do not stand up well to built up engines though.

I am looking for a 394 with the slim jim transmission for my 1962 starfire. If anyone near New York with that combo for sale let me know.

I have a 425 motor and 400 transmission I purchased out of a 1967 OLdsmobile but Don't know if I can get them in my 62 starfire that is why I am looking for a 394 motor and trans for the starfire.
