Use 'save as' and give the photo a different name, then your original photo won't be destroyed. I don't know how the color changes though... Maybe some settings, what software do you use for resizing?

I am using Irfanview.and it works simple and usually well....Use 'save as' and give the photo a different name, then your original photo won't be destroyed. I don't know how the color changes though... Maybe some settings, what software do you use for resizing?
As attitudor said, add a letter or number to the new pic's title to save the old one. When you hit Save As, a menu should come down to allow you to choose the type of ppicture you save. Make sure you're not saving it as a monochrome bitmap.

If you've used the "Save as gray scale" option with Irfanview, it'll stay selected until you deselect it. Pull up a picture and select "Save As" and see if the grayscale option is checked, as in one of the pics attached.

Let me know if that's not it and I'll dig a little deeper. I use Irfanview almost daily on a couple of computers. Fantastic for resizing pics, the batch conversion makes easy work of resizing 1,000+ pics at a time for burning to CD's.

As luck would have it, it's freeware, and can be downloaded here:
http://irfanview.com/
If you have any questions, let me know, I'll do what I can to help anyone get familiar with it. It's my default image viewer for all types of images.
