Ok I've seen all kinds of customs with fade paint.....but how many rods, A's, 32's...etc, have fade paint jobs? Maybe there is a reason I've never seen any but I sure would like to see some.....pictures welcome http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

no street rods man.....unless you are refering to pre 48 cars as street rods......Manly interested in "A's" but other pre 35 cars would be cool, basicaly I've just never seen any rods with D'Agostino style fades.

I've seen so many pictures...and I don't think I've ever seen a "rod" type car with a fade paint job. That's weird now that I think about it.

that is exactly why i asked....i love fade on most customs ive seen it on....so i wonder if i would like it on a rod.......have an chance to get a model A roadster and wanted to do something diff with it....this might be it. But i would still like to see some pics because it might be a huge mistake.

There's a '54 F-100 around Eureka I think you'd really dig, Bradberry, will get pics of it at the college parking lot soon. White with purple flames, but up close the colors fade between purple, lavender and deep blue, just like Midnight Blue, depending on the angle yer standing at.
Is this partly what yer thinking of?

not really looking for just the flames to fade between colors....im talking full body fade.......like the corners/high spots light and the bottom of the body dark....or what ever the method to madness is on a fade paint scheme.... a good number of these (http://www.johndagostinokustomkars.com/showcars.htm) have the paint job style im looking for......

There is a small pic of a T with a fad job in the back of a 2002 Speedway catalog. Just a lil' pic down in the Left hand corner of the pictures pages.

Saw this one at St Ignace about 10 years ago.
Never seen another paint job like it.

Lots of that done on "FadTs" and there's a '27 T show car with fade on page 71 of the Andy Southard Hot rods & Customs of the 60s. The Art Himsl psychodellic ribbon paint jubs of the 60s & 70s used fade away around th panels under and before the ribbon graphic.
Usually, guys used it on Ts just to highlight the door & body lines.
I've seen it on the fenders of "resto Rods" that had rock damage on an un-patchable fender, they just did a "frame" around the edges to cover the chips and damage.
If done well it looks good! If done poorly it's just plain awful.....

Well, If '40 coupes qualify in the "rod" category then look at Cushenbery's "Matador" It had a fade job originally.
And Gene Winfield is the master of the style. He's sure to have painted a pre 49 car or two with a fade job, but the later ones ('35 and newer) probabaly fall into a custom rather than rod looking category

Just a hunch here, but I wonder if it was more common on later cars just because of the flow of the bodies. Fades tend to be more noticable when the panels are curved rather than square or flat like 20s-30s cars. Or am I just a complete fucking idiot?
Don't answer that.
