Dick Dean's Dot Rod from the 70's

Anyone remember this ? Dick Dean put a 32 Ford coupe body on a Datsun pickup frame in the 1970's.

I know I know ,but my boss asked and I had a old magazine with a 2 page article about how Dean channled the coupe body down over the pickup frame. Now he's thinking low buck,can get a frame for free etc, etc.

I'd read somewhere that Dean actually had some instructions that he sold for $10 back in the day that showed all the details of the swap.He called it the Dot Rod .Would anyone happen to have a copy ,I'd pay a resonable price ?

Tried to talk him into some type of old Ford frame ,but he
thinks this would work and would be cheap.

Figured if anyone had any more info someone here would .

Molloy I do remember that. I'll see if I can find the magazine about it.

Always the innovator, Dick marketed the "Dot Rod" kit car using the chassis and power train from a Datsun. The information packet sold for $10 and gave instructions on building a glass or steel '32-'34 Ford. If it was built correctly, this is how it looked.

All of the '30s cars that I've seen with late model frame under them just don't look right. Here in Phoenix there is candy apple red, hemi powered duece highboy pick up on a Nissan truck frame. Nice body, nice paint, bitchin' engine, god-awful frame. Even with all the nice bits, the thing just looks terrible.

Saw that very car at the LA roadster show in 2002. It was a great idea to save money at the time although not right for that body style.

Maybe onother type of full fendered car or truck..., Ummmmm..., like a Datsun TRUCK!!
