What are the differances if any between a 53 merc and 55 ford car rear end?

They are weird........ some interchange and some do not. Early 55's are the same width as the 53 and later one are different. Station wagons and Sedan Deliveries are different than passenger cars. SD's and SW's are heavier duty.

I had a 53 Mercury.....to get the flathead....and it had 5 on 4.5 pattern rims...same as a 49 up Ford..... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

rears are the same width from 52-56, wagon and SD included ran a 53 sedan for awhile with a 56 wagon rear. 56 stick 6 OD wagon came from the factory with 4.26 gears
