More progress on the '32 3-window chassis -- the boys at Creative Metalworks have got it straight and true, with all the major hurts fixed. They've also got the nailhead and tranny in place . . . looks like it'll sit in there pretty good with the old Hurst mounts, plenty of room for the '40 steering box. WIll have to notch/flatten the center of the firewall, but what the hell, it's just an old Ford, right?
CM's jig is a pretty neat affair -- not nearly as heavy as a lot of chassis jigs I've seen. The guy who's doing the work, Larry, used to own a frame straightening business and really knows his stuff. Puts a lot of thought into how he does it, and it's a lot more finesse than brute force -- that shows in the jig construction.
Might be tough to see in this pic, but on the wall behind is the chassis blueprints for reference, along with a couple of inspirational pics -- one of 'em is from "The Birth of Hot Rodding," Page 154, I think.
More next week.
later,
Steve.
