Its amazing how the current rat rod trend has transgressed to the big time builders.. photos below from posies website.. posies projects (http://www.posiesrodsandcustoms.com/shop_projects.asp)

who knows how it will turn out.. lets just hope it doesnt get baby buggy fabric fenders..

maybe they will use umbrellas as fenders like that ugly roadster they built a few years ago... anyone have photos of that thing.

Well at least he has enough money to do it.

Who cares who builds a "trad" rod (trad being a nominal word here) as long as no one forgets our roots.

I liked the fenders....it's tough to do something that hasn't been done to death....I wonder what that recent project will end up as???...probably not a rat...most likely shiny.

I can't say to much right now, or show the photos cuz I promised not to, but there will also be a RPU coming out of a VERY famous hot rod shop in the next 12 months and debuting at the Detroit Autorama as a Riddler contender. That should REALLY put KustomBuilder in a tailspin! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So far it has a look very similar to Jeems rendering but the rendering I saw was done before Jeems but not published anywhere,

So are we looking for fame, or just trying to have a nice ride????....There will always be imitation, but in reality, most everything has been done. If there is ten of those short 5window trucks, it won't be any less fun to be in one....heading down the freeway.... at a high rate of speed!!!!

funny guy. i started building mine BEFORE Injected A and months before the mag hit the stands. in fact before JEEM even finished the artwork cause he showed me the original sketch he did on a yellow sticky note. that got the whole thing started for me.

Posie is a Poser. the thing has round tube chassis and an injected SMALL BLOCK CHEVY. WHOOPTY DOO!! he's made other mistakes as for as the body goes but i'm not saying what. just wait till there done. put em side by side and THEN you decide which is better. and yes mine will be shiny and it will look ALOT like Jeem's artwork unlike that other thing.

it's not exactly a new concept here folks. i've see the same thing done before and i even found a similar vehicle in the woods a few years ago. it's been there since AT LEAST the early 70s. it was done as a farm truck not a hot rod and it's rusted beyond belief now but the idea is not new. the main thing that burns my ass is that Panzie did'nt even have the professional curtousy to drop Jeem a line and say "hey, you mind if i build this thing?" or "is someone building it allready?". just a courtesy thing thats all. Jeem's far too nice a guy to raise hell about it so i will http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif..

honestly. it bothered the hell out of me when i first heard cause this project means alot to me (i'm getting all emotional http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif) but the more i see the "Poser rod" the less worried i am. it's not gonna turn out like mine and quite frankly it will not be near as cool. i'm THAT confident. it's got a gawd damned ROUND tube chassis for Christ sake. i'm sure it'll turn out nice but will FUCKING ROCK!!!

oh, and Denise. you get 50 lashes for withholding information.... 100 if you start making excuses.

Mike, like I said before to you (and like Hatch just said) there could be a hundred built and EVEN if they tried to hit the art to the letter (or pencil stroke) ALL of them will be different. Keep on working towards getting that car done and I am sure yours will have plenty of SOUL and will kick ASS! Honestly, if Posies IS referencing my art, I am flattered by that. I'm flattered by anyone that makes my sketches reality. Besides, you bitch, you know I'm standing in your corner.

If that's true I guess there are two ways to look at it. A) It's bad because these new guys are just doin it cause it's "in". We are the "true original" rat rodders and they are just copying us. OR B) It's good because everyone else is finally building stuff we like and there will be a lot more cool cars around.
Which one is it http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Glad you didn't get too bent. I was just hassling you. And honestly I see things I like about both trucks. I think the tube frame is neat. I like the Zoomies Jeem drew (you are fabbing those, right?). Too bad InjectedA didn't go through with his plans. Could have been a Battle Royale.

I DO!!! But there are some major differences too. Notice the rear of the cab on Posies is WAYYYYYY too long. And the rubber leads me to think that this thing is gonna lead a confused life. (Looks like 18-20 inch wheels on the rear.) While I wouldn't discount the work done (as it is quality craftsmenship), this project I feel will not truly catch the spirit of JEEM's art.

As for Mike (Kustombuilder) not being happy, He just posted (as he put it) a formal resignation from the HAMB. I'm not sure he'll be able to stay away but he is WAY serious.

Doesn't look like a rat rod to me. Looks to be really well engineered...too well, come to think of it.

Maybe it's just me, but when I think rat rod, I think poor engineering and unsafe.

This is going to be a big-buck, high tech, rat rod copy, trying to go one further and take a new look at an old theme.

When they are both finished,no one will confuse the 2 trucks.
The proportions of the cab are different.
Posies will have a Posies "look" to it,the highly finished slick minimalism he is known for.

Jeem's rendering is too agressive to be a Posies car. It's NASTY.
I like NASTY. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ahh, who even cares. Its a neat concept and I know at least 1/2 dozen people building one sorta like it.

The only cool ones will have thier owners written all over them. Not cool because its a cut down sedan, or because it was built from a really fab poster, but because the grinnin' idiot behind the wheel got dirty makin' it that way.

The really sad thing is that if someone rich'n'famouse builds one, someone will repop it in plastic and then they will be everywhere, like Alloway's Speedsters or those Coast to Coast things.

OH boy, I just can't wait to git my hands on onados kits.

Here is how I see it, walking into a "rod shop" with a sketch (or idea) and a check for 200k and telling them "this is what I want" does NOT make you a Hot Rodder. For me, I live by the 50/50 rule: build what you drive, and drive what you build.

In the case of the Posie's rod, the only part of that RPU that you can call a "rat rod" is it's stance. Nothing more. It will not have the flavor, or the attitude, to be what they are calling it. What they are doing is putting bacon and unions on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

I'm sure it will be a beautiful ride when it's completed, and probably win many awards for craftsmanship, and engineering. When it comes to flavor, style, and attitude, I will gladly sit back and learn "what not to do" on someone elses dime.

Yeah, I wish all these high-dollar jerks would get off of our turf and go back to cluttering up every car show with teal deuces with ribbons and shit painted down the side http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Arguing about who should be "allowed" to build "rat rod" cars and trucks is as productive as pissing in the wind, but I do have to say that if you're looking at those pictures at the top of this post and not seeing ANYTHING that interests you or at least sparks an idea of what you can do in your own back yard, then you are no more creative than the "gold chainers" you're so pissed off at for copying other people's ideas.

Not sure I understand the problem here. Everyone pissed because Posie's project is a shortened sedan like Jeem's drawing and the HAMBer built one? That makes him a poser?

I got news folks, that body style isn't new. I used to ride to school in the back of one my neighbor's big brother built back in the early 60's. It was pretty common to do the same type body back in the AA/(FUEL COUPE) era too. Lots of racers did it.

The drawing Donzie posted was actually posted after this truck was posted in R&C. Wonder where he got the idea. This truck was posted in August 2002 issue of R&C from the Del Mar Goodguys meet. Says it belonged to Mike Van Zetten outta El Cajon. Kinda beats everyone to the punch don't it?? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If something has not been done by now, it probably can't be done, or is just too ugly to do. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I'm just glad I'm the first to chop and channel a 33 Ford P/u. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I do have one supersecret modification I'm doing to the 33, that has never been done before. Unfortunatly it probably fits into the "too ugly to do" category.

Gee, I' going to build one too...Except mine's going to be TOTALLY different.
I'm going to use a shortened convertible sedan!

Hey, they're all Ford Model A based, and tey all have four wheels so they are all at least similar...
Even Henry Ford's first production car was a badge engineered Cadillac with more pistons. (They have both cars parked side by side at the Harold Warp Museum in Minden NE. and the only visible difference without opening the hood is the names on the radiator and wheel hubs.)

I doubt anyone on this board is "first" in style at any build. Different? Sure. I could be wrong. Show me. And as this post has already shown there are a shit load of them out there. My dad's bud built a jalopy pu out of a tudor in the 70's. Ugly, mean and scary as hell.

Posie is making a living at what he does. And enjoying it I would suppose. Building badass one off rides and getting paid for it. F'n A. I'm sure he's paid he's dues.

If arrogance builds cars, then yes, there will be another badass pu on the road one day. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

You are only partly right Builtbyme, my inspiration for that artwork lies in a number of cars including the aforementioned occasional gasser. I never EVER said it was an original idea, just a new slant on existing elements. Ain't nothing new! Just a matter of rearranging, picking and choosing and hopefully, coming up with a new mousetrap.

I laugh my ass off when I hear someone say they were the first to do whatever. Oh yeah!, for my next piece I will be drawing something never seen before. Dig this, a '32 ford roadster and I am going to illustrate it with NO FENDERS. That beautiful frame will look nice sticking out for all to see. Think I'm going to call it the "Highboy"!
