The HAMB, Los Gassers and Zeke’s Diner Present
HAMB Gas 2004 March 19th-21st

You are all invited to participate in and/or witness on the HAMB, the
transformation of Zeke’s Studebaker Wagon
Tequila, Beer, Dr Pepper, Tacos, Fajitas are served and more suprises!
I have limited room for HAMB members, but if you need a place to crash let me know (Radshit). I can also help with hotel accommodations, if desired.
The event will feature the removal of stock components and the preparation and installation of the 1956 F-100 front axle and leaf springs. We will fabricate the steering link, shock mounts and more. To include the build of the one piece tilt front clip.
Plus, if time permits, fun with OneShot Sign enamels.
Note: Any reference to a true gasser is purely relative, call it what you want………..we won’t hate you.

There is no dumb question......
I have all the tools covered......after my trip to Denver ( Feb 25th for the HAMB breakfast) I'll know more about what materials I'll be needing. If you have an extra 4 inch grinder ...bring it...never hurts to have extra folks cleaning up the metal...Thanks..Neal

This sounds like the perfect little weekend vacation I need. The wife needs todo some research at your local university so maybe will make a weekend out of it. Give us more details as the become avaiable. Hey Jerry maybe will caravan over.
Drgnwgn let me know if you need anything off that front clip.
Rootie poo just get yerself down there.
Damn Rad are you inviting all the "special" kids or just one in perticular?
Radshit
02-05-2004, 12:21 AM
Cougdan, c'mon on over. The Comet should be done by then.........I'm busy getting everything ready.......
Zeke...they all are "special"...
drgnwgn289
02-05-2004, 12:24 AM
Zeke, are you getting rid of the front end shit before you take the car to NM? I'd be interested in all the suspension stuff like A arms and spindles and all that crap (if you don't try to rip me off http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif)....let me know
It's going down in one piece so we can make a deal, cash or parts for the stude. One I have an idea what I need.

02-05-2004, 01:02 AM
Radshit, what are doing for a rear for the wagon? Leaving the frame stock in back? Radiusing the wheel wells? Ladder bars? Have an engine in mind? Setting it back and redoing the firewall?
Dan
Radshit
02-05-2004, 01:04 AM
Dan, we don't have anything planned for the rear....for now......and I think Zeke can speak on what he has planned for power....I remember something about turbo Stude????
The mill will be a built 289 stude. Why?....cause I'm "special". Yeah it's gonna be turbo too. I'm very "special" Not tradtional you say. Going fast cheap is as tradtional as it gets baby. but then I don't really care anyway.
Trans is up in the air but I'm pushing the wife towards a 4sp. She's gonna be racing it, so she's the one that has to be comfy with the setup. The rest is up to Rad.
Radshit
02-05-2004, 08:19 AM
Ah...yes...the rest is up to me...
...be careful when you say that......hehe
I know better than to give you a free reign on it Neal. Damn thing would come back with 13 gold wires wheels, etched glass, and a mural on the hood of nakkid chicas with power tools. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Remember that the old clutch setups make your leg quiver if the pressure plate is a stout one....she may not like that.

02-05-2004, 11:06 AM
oops...nevermind
drgnwgn289
02-05-2004, 11:42 AM
Root, you're right, I use an 11" truck clutch in my stude and that thing is a pain to hold down...its just a matter of leverage though, it could be changed.
Roothawg
02-05-2004, 12:07 PM
That's OK Zeke like his women with one leg bigger than the other...it's quite a turn on. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Yeah its true, but at least I don't go for the ones with a third leg like you. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

02-05-2004, 03:28 PM
Hey you two...save your energy for the party....we'll need all you can muster...
I put a couple adds out for tool wielding chicas...but that depends on the wife's approval.......don't hold your breath.

I put in with the BBMFIC to see if I cant' make it.
She was headed to Albequirkey to visit her sister... so if I can tag along, I'll be there with grinder in hand.
About the axle, is it narrow enough?
Are we hacking the rear wheel wells out too? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Motor mounts?
Stubbing the front end with square tubing and then mounting the leafs off of that?
Make a motor plate out of aluminum for the front? A trans mount?
How much of the original straight axle front end is there? Did you grab the mounts too? (cut them off of the original body?)
Maybe we can dope this out before we all get there... show pics of everything here on the HAMB before we start...
shit, I don't even know if I can make it and I'm stoked about it!
Sam!

Sam, Can ya pick me up in Bako? I wanna go but would have to sell my car for gas money if I took mine..
or maybe Killer will go. anyone got an empty seat? I'll split fuel expenses and driving duty.
i'm interested. anyone from sd wanna go too?
Radshit
02-05-2004, 06:04 PM
That would great! If Sam and you Cali boys can make it..
Sam, The 56 F-100 has the pretty double drop, but if that should be too wide...although I don't think it should...I have a 52 F-1 axle for back up...it is narrower.
As far as frame stub out, that will be determined when I go up to Denver in about three weeks to do Stude "recon". I will take a good look at frame dimensions and layout to see if the exsisting frame will work or if we will benefit from a stub out....
I have a set of Ford spring perches..we'll see if we can use those or go with a tubing and Square tubing cut in half..
No plans to hack the rear wheel wells out yet......depends on how time and resources works out....but from the sound of things...so far we might have enough for a team of hackers up front and a team out back......
Motor mounts won't be an issue unless we change the front of the frame and the exsisting motor mounts will be used, to the best of our abilities....
CURIOUS RASH
02-05-2004, 06:36 PM
Do I have to share a bed with you?
AGAIN.
Can we go back to that country bar?
Will they have Lesbian love night again at the Tavern Pub?
drgnwgn289
02-05-2004, 06:49 PM
Radshit...I think that when you examine the stude frame, you'll probably decide to build a stub. The Stude frames (even the later model frames with thicker steel) aren't really that strong.
Holy shit! Rash is here!?

<font color="green">Yeah man,
I'm alive. Had to take a break and concentrate on a few things.
Getting burned out in a few areas, time to regroup.
I dropped the ball on those fittings, you still need? My access will be cut when I switch positions shortly.(I hope)
Let me know.

What are you doing for front wheels? Are you going with the 5.5" Fords or something different?

Rad, what is the weather usually like there in March? Are we working outside in the snow? Just wondering if we need Rashy to follow us around and hold the heater while we all work.
How far away is the closest motel? Can I sleep in your driveway or on the shop floor?
Radshit
02-06-2004, 11:24 PM
I should have plenty of room Root....I have a mother-in-law quarters out back that has a bath and kitchen and another bedroom seperate from the house.......
The weather in March is usually warm and a little windy..but shouldn't be a problem......I'll have the garage cleaned out so we can work in there....
I live a stone's throw away from Old Town, which has a grip of hotels ..so Hotels are plentiful and close. A grill will be set up out back for the fajitas and I may have a keg of beer on the ready......in case somebody gets thirsty.....
There won't be much off street parking...but the good thing is that my house is on a circle and I set on the corner.....back in the day...... I used to host car club meetings...so my neighbors are use to a street full of cars.
A typical day in front of the Radshit residence....
