Depends on what you want to do, man. I can bring you on a local dive bar pub crawl, or I can point you to the more general touristy things....let me know and I can help you out.

it's been a cold ass winter here, so the city has been on lockdown! But its warming up this week. There's an extra 1.2 million people in the city today for the Patriots homecoming parade. sunday night they were flipping over cars, burning shit, and barreling into pedestrians to celebrate, so today might be an interesting day...

Hey Jeff. Isn't Gary "Chopit" Fioto's shop somewhere in upstate New York? That might be worth checking into...if it's on the way, could make for a good stopping point. Have a good trip.

Ok, so there's the tea party reanactment (sp?) if thats your thing! haha. ALso the Duck Tours (you get on this GI Joe stlye amphibious vehicle that brings you around the city, then out to the harbor for a boat tour of the city - not sure if those will be running when you get here - check it out at Copley mall).

Newbury St. is a big shopping st. Harvard square is somewhat similar to Little 5 Points in Atlanta, or Soho in NY.

There's the freedom trail. Fanuel hall. Haymarket. The North End (for kickass italian food). These are all things people check out while here.

Also, you could drive about 1/2 hour outside of the city to Salem, MA - the whole witch trials things, etc.

Walden Pond is about 1.2 hour outside of the city as well.

Thats what I can think of off the top of my head. You can give me a call when you are here and I can help you out more from there with directions, etc.

Oh yeah, you can also come by my cycle shop if you want to check out some bobbers and choppers.

Get a damn roast beef sandwich. God what I would do for a roast beef from Bill and Bobs right now. Hey Truth, you didn't used to go to Salem State College did you? I worked at the radio station with a guy there that called himself the Truth.

If the Duck Tours are running(I think that is a warm weather gig)a friend of mine drives one of them. The best tour guide they have.Name is Frank Palmisano(easy to spot he's a dead ringer for Dom DeLuise)and he's a serious rodder from way back.Tell him Ray Smith said hello.
Salem is a good tourist spot.I worked there for 20 odd years at a dealership.House of Seven Gables, several witch related places, the Peabody Museum(probably the best maritime museum in the country). If you want to continue a little further north,go out of Salem and head towards Rockport and Gloucester(about another half hour).Too many places to list there. Enjoy!

Just make sure you get as much real food as you can. Hanover St. in the North End has more choices than you can imagine. Kelly's Roast beef in Revere or Saugus is worth checking out- just be careful if you order a LARGE order of fries.
There is another place in the North End that has one of the best cheeseburgers I've ever eaten, Mangia Mangia.

Don't get me wrong, every single person you encounter will treat you like a pile of shit, but the food is amazing!

Well if you're going to send him to Kelly's(if you're into clam chowder, there is NONE better!)you might as well send him a half mile down the highway(south)to the Hilltop Steak house(can't miss it;it's the one with the 75'tall heon cactus for a sign)for the BEST steak in the universe!Last time I was there(in Sept)you could get a 16oz filet mignon that you could cut with a fork,a baked potato, fresh Italian bread, and a salad for 12(lol)for about 17 bucks.Just don't go there near dinner time because you'll probably have to wait a couple hours(they don't take reservations)even though the restaurant holds about 800 people.
I grew up in Saugus.

While in Saugus, another mile or so up from the Hilltop, you could hit up Polcari's Italian restaruant, on the northbound side of the road. They have great pizza (not like New Haven Ct., but good nonetheless) and really good dinners.

You might try to get in touch with the Alter Boys, Pete is on the HAMB. They might know of something going on, or be knee deep in a project that is no doubt worthy of checking out.
Mag-Neto is printed in Watertown Ma, somewhere, right outside of Boston. I don't know if you could check out their set up somehow, but it is a kickass little mag.

If you want REALLY good pizza, head back south on Route 1 to Revere Beach. Two great shops right on the ocean:Anna's and Bill Ash's(and maybe Bianchi's).If you're into great seafood, the Wharf Restaurant(on North Shore Road which runs parallel to the Beach Boulevard)is good.
That is the one thing I reget about moving to the Midwest:Too many great places to eat in Massachusetts.I DON'T miss the horrendous traffic!
BTW Watertown is a suburb of Boston(take Commonwealth Ave to Brighton Ave straight to Watertown) so maybe you could make contact with the Mag-Neto guys.

Where in Rhode Island are you heading?

If the Ocean State is your primary destination I would recommend staying at America's First Resort- Newport RI. Tons of cool things to check out: Mansions, Boat Museums, Excellent Restaurants, Lots of great shops down on the wharves, All the great hotels, Plus the beach, cliffwalk if it's nice, etc.

I sent you a PM.

Nothing much going on up this way until April 18 and the Early V8 swap and show in Fitchburg, MA. Lots of trad style cars show up, rods and restorers generally get along well out here.
Distances are small in New England. If it interests you check out the sub base in New London, CT as well as Mystic Seaport. You got a long weekend then head to Montreal.

The wife and I do the Hilltop about once a month, havent been to Polcari's since I worked in Melrose about 30 years ago.

Check out a map. Boston's another hour and a half from the Rhode Island border and that's if you're not in rush hour traffic.

Accomodations in Rhode Island will be a lot cheaper than in teh Boston area, too.

If yopu're into touristy stuff, check out the Newport area and all of the mansions. Don't know if they're open in teh winter but you should be able to bring up the Newport C of C or tourist bureau web site and find out.

If you take I-95 to or from Rhode Island, do your self a favor & get off in New Haven CT. and get a pizza. Sallys, Frank Pepe, Tony & Lucilles, all on Wooster st. Or Modern Pizza on State st. These are some of the best pizza joints around

Shoebox...That's what I'm talking about! Worth the trip. We used to drive 2 hours from New Hampshire, to stand in line at Pepe's for an hour OUTSIDE, in the freezing cold, to get pizza.
I still make the trip whenever I'm in New England.

I had to laugh at that estimate also Jim! Heck, I do the Warwick, RI to NH trip once a week and THAT is about 1 1/2 hours. Except for last Friday when some pickup tried to fly over the center divider on I-95 in Pawtucket. Damn near shit my pants!!
