Went to a swap meet in New Egypt, New Jersey this past weekend--small, obscure, run by a Chevy club, but the only old car happening anywhere near this section of frozen tundra.
One guy had early Ford stuff--I was looking at a '40-48 Ford trans he had and suddenly noticed an "H" in its serial number--the sacred symbol of the Zephyr, lost in this hellish wilderness of old Chevy parts!
It was set up to fit a Ford clutch linkage and rear mount, but it seemed worth grabbing. 26 tooth Zephyrs were within when I got it home, synchro rings were new, gear oil was fresh, and it seems likely from first appearances that the gears are either new or unusually good! Can't see the gear surfaces clearly yet, because 140 weight doesn't drain off very quickly at 18 degrees...
The stuff is still out there, and sometimes even comes out in the snow!
