A while ago, someone posted something regarding motivation, that I took to heart. It was something like..."On those days when it's cold, or your motivation is low, get out there and do something, even if it only a small accomplishment."

Well, all I got done today was a little bit of welding. (No welding pics cuz they look kinda crappy so far).

However, the point is that I feel great that I got something accomplished and didn't just stay inside. How about you guys?

I got the flames done for the interior of my 36. this is one side. They will be attached to the main portion of the side panels which are a dark blue. I will show the panel progress later. If the finished product does not come out to muy liking I just may have to pay someone to do the Interior. I just have to try it myself first.

I drove the cadillac 30 feet with no radiator and open trans cooler lines... to my parking stall. Made a mess, and cause it shot out the front, it looks like its "got blood on its teeth!"

kitty litter. I was cold, AND hungover...

I scarred my hands this morning! had to help StevieD put an alternator in his honda! ouch!, the thing that is totally stupid is that the manual says you have to remove the cv axle in order to get the alt out the bottom, didnt have a breaker bar to get the axle nut off so i looked at it a bit and noticied you caould take out the air box and sneak it out throu the top! only took a 1/2 hour to do, the last time they had it done the shop charged em $450 to put it in, this time it didnt cost a dime, just food!

I know sorry for making you read about a honda!

gonna go work on my duece now! TITUS

Saturday morning I drove over to Torrance to a one car garage in an alley up the street from the Masonic lodge where a guy has been keeping "my" '60 El Camino locked up undisturbed since 1988. It didn't have any rear wheels on it, just some jack stands under the frame and extra drums under the axle.
Three of the lugs were broken off the right rear hub, leaving two, which I would have bolted a wheel to to get it on a roll back if they were opposite each other but the weren't, they were right next to each other.
So, with my trusty 2 pound hammer I "borrowed" one of the four from the other side, (it had one broken off too) and moved it to the other side and then bolted on the two chevy wheels and tires that Burndup had left me in the back of the green monster Volvo, and there she was with rear wheels on, sitting on an ass-end high rake because the front's were flat. The seller/curator of the fine machine had brought his compressor full of air (no electricity in the garage so it was just what was in the tank) and we aired up the fronts.
Then I piled up all the boxes of spare parts he had collected off the '59 Elky he had into my '88 Astro Stealth van and called the tow company to pick up the Elky.
Sunday, I spent unloading and checking all the "fine" parts I got with it, vacuuming out most of the "crud" in the bed and surveying what needs fixin.
It's got an AM-FM 8 track in it... I sure hope it works! and it came with a bunch of Impala shiny stuff for the interior and dash and the best part is "Wife" LOVES it! (I just hope she lets me drive it once in a while.)
I haven't got around to trying to start it yet, but it's got a '70 350-350 in it 250 hp version but I have a 4 barrel intake to put on it. I likes the ram horns!
Well, that doesn't sound like much progress but I got me a '60 ELKY!

Late Sunday afternoon, fired up the 327 (from the tub) in the '48 Ford. Not a big deal for most but it sounded like heaven to me. No leaks!

On the daily (read only) http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif driver... New calipers, front and rear sway bay bushings and tie rod ends plus new front tires. I figure I had enough pratice of what it would feel like driving the salt flats at 200 mph. (doin 60 in my Bronco II) handles like a charm now. Got disracted and worked on the flatty for a little bit. maybe I'll go back out and clean up my mess.

Made my first pass through the neighborhood in my new old drag car. I think the tranny is trashed but it runs good.

Reshaped the lower part of the window opening on a 39 Chevy coupe so that it no longer has a vent window and it will now take a one piece glass. Tomorrow I will do the other door and go visit the transmission shop.

My back has been fucked up all week, therefore i've been taking it easy. (chiropractors orders) I did find a pretty cool old water bag and some other trinkets at an estate sale. I will be back in the garage this week, gotta get the sedan driveable to take to flatheadpete's shop opening.
Here is a pick of the water bag from Yellowstone Park, a well spent $3.00, and it dosen't leak!

Titus-- I put an in tank fuel pump in a freind's Neon. Dealer and manual said drop the tank, so of course I ignored and tried wothout-- plenty of room to wiggle it out without dropping the tank. Same thing-- the dealer wanted four hours labor or so and I did it in a half hour.

spent friday night with Food Poisoning and sat at a buddy's shop suffering while he finished putting the R134 in the AC unit.. Food Poisoning sucks... spent today cleaning up the stainless on my rear seats so I could put my freshly redone backseat together and into the car.. My body is still sore from puking all Friday night/ Sat morning.

I played with the placement of a Chevelle column in the Merc after realizing the stock '88 Lincoln one would have been sitting in my crotch...now I have a few options...

Stock 32" tilt GM A-body, Key & Shifter on column, or:

Stock 32" tilt GM A-body column, no shifter (big $$$)

ididit plain steel tilt, 30-32", GM-style, no key, no shifter - $299,

or

ididit plain steel, tilt, 30-32", GM style, WITH shifter, $400.00

I am leaning towards the Ididit plain steel with no key and no shifter, and a Lokar's on the floor...key in the dash.

I really want the key in the dash, but I like the column shifter...

(The ididit columns use the double-d shafts, while the stock GM would be splines, needing an adaptor. The Lincoln stock shaft is a double-d)

Why don't I use the column in the pics? Cause it ain't a tilt and I'm spoiled.

Oh yeah, the wheel is off a late 60's early 70's Buick...had it for years...just for this.

If anyone has any input, I'd love to hear it.

That's how Sunday started for me too. I was wicked hung over and there was the age old quandry of it being warm inside and cold outside. It took a few hours, but I somehow convinced myself that there would be easy jobs in the garage that would not involve moving my head very much, an action that resulted in much pain. I'm glad I made it out into the garage. I painted the back half of my '31 chassis with Rustoleum while waiting for the hangover to subside. My head cleared up by the time I was done painting, leaving me free to lug around a 97 pound transmission and mock it up in the frame. No pictures, but it's starting to look like a car.

Anyway, that was my weekend... not the most productive, but better than nothing.

i got a good bit done, actually. lately, if i'm not working on my pontiac, i'm helping a friend with his 53 chevy truck. friday, we spent almost the entire day cleaning out his garage. his parents split, andhe's still living at home, so his shop has been accumulating shit and not getting straightened out for a year now. christmas was good to him, and his dad is doing pretty good by him in helping him out with spare tools here and there. so we got it abouthalf cleaned up, hung out, moved his chassis, cab, and bed over to one side so his little bro could use the far bay to fix his mustang. good to see this friend of mine is getting started, he's got themakings of a nice shop. last night, i was up till 1 am patching and shaving the driver's side rear door for my pontiac. got it all done pretty well. i had to patch it just in front of the start of the fatassfender (tm) with a simple single curve panel, and i tell ya, it was a PERFECT patch. no warpage, appropriate sized piece to get rid of all shitty metal, good welds, and perfect fit. it ROCKS to learn new stuff and see how much better you get as you go!

I am now the proud owner of a truck! I bought a 1961 F100 shortbed unibody. The truck runs well and even has a fairly straight body. I spent most of the day Saturday cleaning out the crud. It was used as a haul to the dump truck. I will get new tires to replace the scary recaps and then start driving it as my commuter.

I did something VERY important towards the completion of my project. Even though I didn't actually do any work on the A. Some of you guys(/gals) will understand:

It was my wife's birthday Sunday so I spent the weekend making it her "special day".

I finally got the Galaxie back on the road. Only after replacing the lifters, and rebuilding the top end. The battle this weekend was the damn Oil pump drive shaft, quite possably the dumest design Ford has done yet. It took hours to get that in place and drop the Dist. in place, only to keep having to pull up the dist. and get the timing set. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif.. Then when we fianlly got the timing right noticed the fuel pump was shot, so I installed a new one and changed the oil. Then I was ready to take it out for a cruise, on a sunny but cold day.. Let me tell you it felt good to drive it again. After being down for 2 months I can drive it daily again.. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Its not same driving the wifes Jeep, I was in need of a fix bad...

Hopefully the pics will come out OK, tomorrow- got a lot of prep work on the '57 Effie done, weather be damned. RE-applied self-etching primer Saturday before Work, Sunday I FINALLY got past the etching stage, got the cab draped in filler primer. Still need to go back and re-do a few areas (particularly for the etching, which was a bit thin in a few areas), but at least I got 'er all primered up.
Meanwhile, been getting closer to having the bed and rear fenders ready for primer. Frickin' winter nights. Great - albeit SLOW - progress, though. Should have pics tomorrow. How I lust for indoor shop space...
