View Full Version : Mart becomes a street rodder: New 36 5w project.
I'm stoked.
I've always had a soft spot for the Ford Coupes, and I just bought one. It's a 36 5w unfinished street rod project. After the failed Chevy purchase, I've had some money burning a hole in my pocket. Well this came up and I did some sums, I have to sell some more stuff, but I think it's worth it.
It has a hi-tech quad cam 2.9 V6 from a cosworth granada, an overdrive auto and independant suspension at each end.
I think it looks good, should go well and get good mileage.

Mart,
That's cool. I'm sure you will have a blast with it. Keep us posted on what you do to it.
Nice machine, Mart. It's hard to go wrong with a '36 5w. Good on ya!.

Looks nice. What are your plans to personalize it?
No firm plans, I only saw the photo's last night, woke up thinking about it this morning.
Need to source some parts, but basically I'll do whatever is necessary to get it on the road, and run it as is.
I don't really have to "personalise" it, as it has never been finished, in other words, it hasn't been to any shows so it isn't known as so-and so's car.
I just keep looking at the rear view, it's stunning.

you need a good old fashion FORD V8 for that Bitch! Screw the mileage. Nice score MART!
Thanks guys.
Yup, Mc Strut Phersons on the front. This setup has been used on some Ford Pops over here, but I'm not aware of any full size Early Fords using them. Not the way I'da done it, but It's gotta be worth giving it a go.

you have too many toys, you know you can't drive them all at the same time!! its just self indulgence I don't know what you are thinking.......pull your self together man! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
just noticed the 100E did you get that thrown in too?
I saw the 100E but wasn't looking at it. All I can tell you is it's a 2 door and green. You're right, I am self indulgent, but aren't we all?
PS Did I mention I bought a 283 Chev and a 700R4 box the other day? If that Cossie lump so much as hiccups its OUTTA THERE!!!

That's a great start Mart!
Looks like you have some front end sheet metal aligning ahead of yoy, what fun...
I'm a bit concerned at the height of th towers relative to the size of the frame rail the're attached to and if at all possible I think you shoud try to engineer in some version of a tower rod. Similar in function to the ones the FWD cars run here's waht I' talking about http://www.eautoworks.com/html/ape-auto~performance-Aluminum~Tower~Bar.htm
They keep the tops of the towers from flexing inwards.
You can make your own of course, so it'll clear all the engine goodies up there.
Love the color, it will clash so well with the tail lights!

I'm bored....
Thanks fellas.
Doc, I was thinking the same, some sort of bolt on bracing frame with a bit of triangulation if possible.
I'm on a works trip now for a couple of weeks, so nothing will happen for a while.

Is see the wipers are moved tothe cowl. That cleans it up nice, I never liked them coming out of the roof. so is the windscreen fixed?
Thats going to make a real nice rod. I would like to see some closeup pics of that front suspension, I'm surprized it clears the fenders. I have seen similar tries using struts with poor results.
Are you gonna finish the car in that color? we are doing a 36 3 window for a guy thats going to be low gloss baby blue with cream wheels and grill insert.
