I've got the same engine and can solve a few of your questions. Also I have the factory manuals for them so you can pick among the parts. Send me an address if you want a package. I added the 4 bbl intake off the 188 HP engine and the thermostat housing which has a recess for the thermostat, then added a GM housing with a little oblonging of the holes to make an inline thermostat housing. I used the Cosworth Vega t. housing to keep the 1-1/4" hose. I kept the stock head, just ground the AIR stands out of the exhaust, then added a bus/big truck exhaust manifold which is a 3" exhaust. I updated to the cheap Crane roller rockers and Speed Pro rings for stock bore and still have half a set of each.

I gotta find one of those mills!!!! HMMMMM, after market head, forged slugs, gapless rings, I'm sure some cam grinder can do a modern grind, lakes headers and a 5 speed in a modified or an RPU. Like I need more ideas! Hey, one of those would smoke my quad! 'Course, a new frame would be needed, but the tubing is in the shop already. Excuse me while I peruse ebay.

Dowel pins and about half the bolt holes line up for SBC but it has an extended bellhousing on the block. I had the local Manley rep (who had one of these engines in a dragster with a Boss head) whittle me a custom flywheel, but it uses 289 ring gear but zero balance which I think is the same as a Ford 6. Dampener is also 289 0 balance. If the stock one is good it has a weak alternator in it, so if you avoid electric fans and EFI you might get by with no belts as water pump is cam driven. I used a Lakewood housing and had a rare non OD Ford PU Tremec 4 speed, but it had to be donated to the work truck so I coughed up the coin for a Tremec 3550. I got fancy with the bellhousing and welded flanges where needed to get all the bolts and moved the starter pocket, but it would be easier to just relieve it in this area if you need clearance. There are triangular bolt holes on the sides, but they are a little wide for Chev 6 mounts so I welded a strap across the bottom holes and used a washer under the top hole, then used V8 SBC mounts on the frame.

I notice that Edelbrock makes an aluminum head to fit 460 Fords. Would it fit here? Sure would make for a light strong running motor if it would. It also might not be dimensionally stable enough without the heavy iron head. Any other reasons it wouldn't work?

I am thinking of going with the Alloy 470. Can you post some more pics of the engine and trans?
Also any links that have info on the Alloy 470.
Thanks
