Anyone no the differens in lenght in a 52 pickup chevy (shortbed longbed) on the frame?
I want to buy one but i think it is a longbed (ugly)
so why not shorten it to a shortbed?
reson is that i canīt find a good shortbed for disent money
seems like that the longbed are cheeper.
what do you think?

I'm not positive but if it is a 1/2 ton truck it will have a "short-bed", the 3/4 ton had a longer bed and if I'm correct the 1 ton truck had a 9 foot bed. Not sure though.

Simple solution. The only differences are the length of the bed and frame. Not too hard to shorten them and reset your wheel base length. More work but these 3/4 tons are cheaper and more accessible.

Why not buy the long bed truck and use So-What's Tech instructions to mount the body on an S10 chassis, drop in a V8, shorten the bed, and have some fun.
Can you tell I've been thinking of this? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The 3/4 ton had a better chassis for rodding. Narrower at the rear end.
You don't have to make it an exact copy, Loose the side hung spare, then shorten it to the length you want.
The long bed was longer before and after the axle.
The Short bed was a 6 ft bed BTW.

Has anyone done this?
Will a shortbed bolt up to the 3/4 ton frame if it is narrower?

There is a place in Hemet, Ca that does this to old chevy trucks for that reason. Can't remember the name, say it in Truckin mag a few years ago. I just tried a search and couldn't find it. I think it started with a "m". Yeah, I know, not much help but maybe someone knows.

I've messed around with these trucks for a long time...if your truck is a 3/4 ton, you can cut 9 and 1/2 inches off the front of your bedsides; bolt the front bed panel back on and you will have the eqivillant of the halfton bed. (1/2 ton series were 3100...3/4 tons were 3600...these emblems were on hood sides by Chevrolet emblem). 1/2 ton rear frame rails curve up in an arch over the rear axle; 3/4 tons rear frames are almost flat. I prefer 1/2 ton chassis as you can lower the rear more w/o a C-notch. 3/4 frames are narrower but use more and stiffer leafs in the springs.;which would make for a stiffer ride. You could use leaf springs off a newer truck w/the hangers to get better riding springs. ......If your truck is a 1 ton (3800 series) then the bed is longer both in front and behind the rear fenders...you'd have to shorten both ends.........................hope some of this helps you out....

I wondered if that was possible...
