View Full Version : A "hypothetical" question.....

Say you’re out riding back roads.... and you pass a Deuce roadster body.... sitting in a field.

Not a cheap drag car body but a good, new ‘glass body by a major manufacturer. It is missing its cowl and firewall and has been cleanly cut in half. Doors, decklid, rolled pan, and a grille shell are with it. (Decklid hasn’t been cut).

What’s it worth?

Is it near any house or "owned" land?

Yes, and you have spoken to the owner about so you can't just steal it.

First question is why did it get cut in half ?
Sounds like someone got Pissed Off cause it was a Piece of Shit.

Sencond question. Do you have the ability to fix this thing? And where do you get another 'Glas cowl ?

A shop owner or rod builder bought it to cut up and make displays out of it. Hidden hinges, bear claw latches, windshield stanctions, electric trunk openers, etc.... Sounds like they had more $ than sense (and a small trailer that wouldn't hold a full sized body). They also had a friend at the 'glass company who cut them a deal on it.

It has passed through several hands now and no one has ever done anything with it.

Ability to fix it? Got that one covered. It is building an engine that baffles me.

Where could you get another 'glass cowl? Good question.

Of course this is all hypothetical... JH

These threads about "What would you do if you came across an "abandoned" car out in a field are outnumbered probably three to one by the "Some cocksucker stole my next project right out of my [back yard] while I was at work" threads.
It belongs to someone.
If you take it without written permission from the owner of the property you are no good STEALING thief.
No good stealing thieves should have their hands cut off! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

No part of me would want to steal it. I never meant to imply that I would. I'm just curious what part of a body would be worth. A price hasn't been set.

DrJ,
I think you missed the point, he has already asked the
owner and is looking for a fair value.

He is not stealing your project from someone's back yard,
so lighten up.

I would start at a couple hundred and go from there.
Who knows, maybe there is a chassis in his barn to go with it too.

OK I read it as all being hypothetical as in "this may or may not have happened" including the part about talking to the owner. so take what I said as being hypothetically what I think should happen to some hypothetical person who didn't hypothetically talk to the owner.

I'd offer to haul that scrap out of his way free of charge and go from there.
