View Full Version : Anyone Molassas body parts yet?
I just scored two really killer door for the rear of my touring. I have several pinholed doors, so I dont want to even chance it blasting these! I am getting ready to do the molassas trick on em. I have done small parts but never a door. Anyone try this? Am I wasting my time? They will fit in a small Rubbermaid bin so.................

Looks like Rocky has had some personal experience with Molassas.
See previous post titled: "The Great Molassas Experiment Begins"

I did some 20 gage interior door access panels. Turned out just wonderful.

I wen't back through Rocky's posts and couldn't find the Great Molasses test. I've seen the molasses thang come up a bunch of times, so this has prolly been discussed to death, but hey what's one more stupid question...
Why molasses? Are you going for colour or does molasses do something different?

I believe the sugars in the molassas create an acid that "eats" the iron oxide.
I won't be using it on my coupe panels- all I have is rust..
Sugars AND Sulpher. We use the type used in feed for cattle. Found at an ag supply.

Ok, I've heard of using it on carbs and such, and now body panels, any do's and don'ts? Will it get in cracks, leach back out and cause issues with paint the way chemical stripper does?

It may do just like a badly cleaned acid dip job it will come back to eat the new paint off.I would think a real good cleaning that would neutralize(sic?) the sulfer wold do it...good ol water???

I believe that Rocky (Mr Wunnerful) and myself have done the most to promote using molasses. You should be able to find a lot in the archives.
Ive done small pieces of sheet metal, about 20 gauge and thicker, came out wunnerful. Same with wire wheels.
Good point about crevices like in doors. I would think that a good soapy & hot water bath and several cold water rinses would remove all traces.
It will eat aluminum, copper, and potmetal so dont try it on a 97.
Wunnerful Wunnerful or was that Minnesota?

I read on BritBike thread that the mild Taco Bell sauce
was good for cleaning rust off chrome wheels!
JR...
My intentions are to give em several pressure washes with steaming water followed by a spritzing of my favorite Laquer Thinner in a 1 gal weed sprayer.

Trent: regarding the title......first off, you need to learn how to spell Mole-asses, which, by the way IS a body part-----------------of a little shrew-like animal..'nuff shit?
Your's truly,
Mr Wunnerful
PS...why not dump a tablespoon full of baking soda in the rinse water to help neutralize that acid?
