Last Tuesday I was having a bad day,

Had to get up EARLY to go to COURT
(Always fun)
And that just ruined it from the get-go...

The judge was really nice,
And honestly, the whole thing turned out alot easier
than I thought it would,
But at the end, well, it was still VERY upsetting
(for both parties involved)

Then there was SCHOOL,
(Just another day)

And at 6 o' Clock I had to go to work...
Stayed at work for MAYBE an hour,
Stewing over how my "supervisor"
Acts like such a bad-ass when the big-boss isn't around

And at about 7:30,
I said
"Fuck it"

Didn't make any excuses,
didn't give any explanation,
Just walked over,
Punched out,
and walked out to my car....

Now, going to school and having a job are what keeps my "rent" free situation existant,
So as I'm walking out to my car I start to realize....
Exactly what I've done-

But instead of turning around and doing
"the right thing"
I started thinking of people I could stay with...
People I could TOLERATE and who could tolerate ME

Then it hit me-
SHANA!
(Shana is my dream girl, best friend, eye-candy, head-shrink, EVERYTHING)

It's DECIDED
I'm going to SHANA'S

The only problem is Shana lives in Texas....
And now it's 8:00 at night-

.... To be continued....!

A HAMB serial- I LOVE it! Um, this isn't fiction, is it?
Even if it is, I'm hooked.

Humboldt Cat-

Hell no!
I got the "TRUCKERS TAN" (TM)
from hours behind the wheel
to prove it!
("Truckers tan" (TM) being a noticably darker/sunburned left arm)

And besides,
I'm not clever enough to think this stuff up!

8:00 at night
In Sacremento, CA-

No cell phone, no cash, nothing...
But I'm dead-set on going to Texas now
So I stop at a gas station-
"How much for a road-map of the USA?"

After checking out the road-map
it looks as though the easiest way for ME to get to Texas
would be to take highway 5 to highway 10,
Cutting down CA into arizona

So that's the game plan...

Did I mention every other time I've been to Texas
it's been by means of an Airplane?

I'll just call Shana the next morning from the road

Justin!! You fuckin loony!!!

Take me with you!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Seriously... I drove thru Texas in August of 97. I-10 is 888 fuckin miles across Texas.

And does Shana know you're coming?!

Does this mean you're not going to BilletProof?!!

At the very least I hope you called your boss to explain to him why you did that. I did that once. I ended up getting my supe's job since it turned out my boss didn't like him either and was looking for an excuse to fire his ass.

So I drove down 5,
Stopped at a Denny's and got some refreshments,
back in the truck I went,
(Denny's was the longest stop that night)

Can't remember if I was still in California
Or if it was Arizona,
But at about 3:30 (?)
(in the morning)
there was a lightening storm DIRECTLY above me...
That was fucking AMAZING!

There were "mountains" on either side of me,
And when a bolt would "strike"
It would illuminate either side,
Casting shadows and whatnot

Not much RAIN,
Just a whole lotta lightening!

When I finally got to New Mexico
(After driving ALL NIGHT and into the day)
I called Shana:

Me: "Hey, what's up?"
Shana: "Hey hun! How are you?"
Me: "Good, sorta. Hey, what are you doing tonight?"
Shana: "Nothing, why?"
Me: "Oh, I thought I'd swing by...
See ya in a few hours!"
Shana: "What???"

So I FINALLY got to Texas,
And then I started to understand
EXATLY HOW INSANELY HUGE TEXAS IS!

Hey Travis!
Naw, I'm back now, sorry!
Next time though!

No, didn't call my boss, or ANYONE for that matter...
So I think I'm un-employed now,
But it was worth it!

Next time Jesse...
Are YOU still coming into town?
Got my #?
Gimme a ring!

Man, talk about livin' for the moment. Where in Texas?
Never been Texas, spent alot of time in NM, drove solo to relatives NW of Albuquerque, next time I'm taking some company, the solitude kinda drove me nuts. So even though yer back, what now?
