By any chance, does anybody have a picture of the "ole Redhead" B/S that ran at Bonneville in the late fiftys of early sixtys. It was ran by Whip/Hammond/McGrath from Redding,California. It held the record for B streamliner@300mph with flathead!!

As a side note to your post, I thought I would add this little note.

Last year at Speedweek, I was standing in line for the porta potty when I looked at a mans T shirt that had a picture of the Redhead on the shirt. I told him that was my favorite Bonneville car of all time. I do not know his name but his reply was “That was my car”. I was so surprised and shocked. We visited for a few minuets and then I had to go back to the pit. Later I regretted not spending a few minuets with him. During the last few months I thought about those few moments a lot. I know that at the time we were working on the racecar and trying to get ready to make another pass but I should have taken more time. There are so many interesting people to meet at Bonnevillle and sometimes they are within a handshake. Next year I will socialize more.

Actually, the Red Head 300mph record was with Chrysler power. Ron Main's Flatfire is the first flathead streamliner to set a record over 300.

Thanks guys for the memories, I knew a Hamb'er would come through. My dad worked on the car when Don, Roger, and Bob had it. I was a little kid and use to go over to the shop and watch the guys work on it.:)

See Roger Whipp in Redding, California. Still racing at Bonneville. Roger is the last of the three still living. I heard Bob died of cancer many years ago and my dad died in 1996 while still in Redding area.

well, time has caught up with it!

the body was built onto the chassis and there is no way to get it off without destroying the body.

as much as i enjoyed driving it, i wouldn't feel safe driving it after all those years of salt getting into places where it couldn't be eradicated!

that said: it'll always be a bitchen car!
