I posted this in the questions forum, and I figured I'd post it here too,

Anyone know if this would work out, or more specifically, what would be needed to mate these? I'm looking into a merc that has a merc-o-matic thats about ready to die.

again, any help or advice is always appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Is it the same as a 368 lincoln?

Flatomatic makes a kit for this.

Check with Gene Benson at www.flat-o-matic. com

he makes adaptors to fit the flat v8 to a c4 or a T5. He also makes adaptors to fit the same trannies to the Ford Y blocks.Gene is a hotrodder himself and really knows his stuff.

Flato and John Mummert both have Y to C4 kits.

Speedway Automotive markets one, as well. C-4 has to be more efficient than your old automatic; lighter, too.

Just a "heads up" on the Speedway C4 adaptor. It will ONLY work with POST '49 flatheads. (NO rear bell housing)

The adaptor is a flat plate that bolts to the rear of the engine, and the ORIGINAL C4 bell housing is used.(it's big)

A late model starter is used (moving pole type) which requires a fair amount of grinding on the block for clearance.

Flat-O-Matic's adaptor can be used on any flathead from '32 to '54, keeps the flathead starter, comes with a new bell housing (much smaller than stock) and a new tourque converter.
