I have seen that most axles are either 46 or 48 inches and I assume that is kingpin to kingpin. What would the measurements be after adding the spindles and brakes? I am trying to decide how wide of an axle I want. Thanks.

Depends on te exact hubs used.
I think it was C9 was said there is a width differance
between using Camaro or Volare rotors on '40 spindles.
The same will hold true with drums.
If your running fenders and wider tires than stock,I'm guessing you'll probably want the narrower axle.

I have 2 TTs that I am going to be building. one with fenders and one without. I was going to use ford spindles on both and put disc on the fenderless and drums on the fendered.

I gained an inch in track width when I went from GM to Volare rotors on my '40.
