I have a bunch of sketches and ideas for intake manifolds on various engines. Is there anything special to watchout for if I were to cast my own ideas?
I know there are a mess of engines out there but I was focusing on nailheads and flatheads for the sheer impact of it.
Anything would be helpful! I already have a guy around the corner who has his garage set up for casting aluminium.
Thanks in advance!

there is nothing so simple that the closer you look at it the more complicated it becomes.
cubic inch and rpm range dictate plenum and runner volume, length and configuration, cfm and subsequent carburetor choice.
..cast aluminum shrinks approx. 1/8" per foot when it cools so cast it big and drill and mill after.
I have now told you more than I know. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

That makes sense. I guess that I need to de some serious research and talk to some smelting and casting facilities. I thought aluminium would be a better chouce than cast iron.

Anyone know the equations to determine plenum and runner volume, length and configuration?

any formula that you find will be RPM specific. At least any that I have ever found were RPM specific.
I think the old book How to Hot Rod Small Block Chevies (Smokey Yunic) had a formula.
You might do a search on Internal Combustion Engine Induction Theory.
Back to the basic, about anything you find will be RPM specific. Unless you can find something on dual plane theory somewhere.
Luck. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
