Some of you may remember the news about an 6.5 Earthquake that hit the central coast of California back in late December. The city of Paso Robles was hit the hardest with a good part of the downtown getting totaled or condemed. Also, the only 2 people to die in the quake were in downtown PR at the time.
If you've ever been to Crusin' Paso in May or September, then you know how cool and friendly these people are. I am collecting a fund to give them at the show this Summer, on behalf of the whole rod & custom community.
If you want to donate $5, $10, whatever, I'm sure it will be appreciated.

Please send me a CHECK ONLY (don't send me cash!). Make the check out to:
"Paso Robles Main St. Disaster Fund", and send it to me at the address below. I talked to the downtown buisness folks, and they were really humbled that car people who visit their town once or twice a year would care. Anyway, thanks for your time and thought on this...

Send to:

Jay Ward
1200 Park Ave
Emeryville Ca
94608

Try to send your donation by early May, so I can get it all totalled for them. I will keep you guys posted on how much was raised.

Funny, when I suggested doing the same thing in a thread right after the earthquake I got shit for it from a few people who said "just get over it they'll be fine". I decided not pursue it. It's still a GREAT idea. I hope people see fit to pitch in. I'll be sending you some dough. Nice work Jay!

Jay -

That is great what you are putting together. That will go a long way with keeping hot rodders welcome in Paso, plus it it just a nice thing to do.

Here are a couple more pics. A tankwagon driver from work took these while fueling the emergency generators.

Things are getting back on track. Paso businesses are advertising locally that they are open and need all the support they can get.

Just to add to what Neil said. Work has begun to get this part of town back in working order. Many bussinesses are still shutdown waiting for permission or repairs to move back in. Now that FEMA (the Fed's) have declared it a distaster area funds can start to roll in to help. The funds will be in the form of grants and low interest loans. Could you imagine owing $200,000 on your home and needing to take out a loan for $100,000.00 to repair it. Glad it wasn't me, but still a bad deal.

Repairs downtown seem to be going really slow to not at all. I'm guessing some were waiting for FEMA to step in and now that they have thing will start to get going.

Jay thanks for doing this! Kirk if you want you can start a fund to help build my shop. It's in Paso! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Jay this is why I am here because for the most part the people on this board are willing to help out people in need even if they have never met them.
I grew up in Fremont have been to Paso more times then I can count, for a town to do what they do for us is awsome and this is the least we can do.
My girlfriend and now wife went with me and a few people in our club to Paso for our first real date and road trip 3 years ago. All of us had a blast. We missed it this year because we are gonna have a baby soon and the funds just weren't there. She was real bummed but when she saw what happened she almost was in tears.
I guess what I am getting at is put us down also for some dow and a BIG THANKS to the People of Paso...Danny

Thanks to all for your kind thoughts and coming donations... Very cool.
I know the people of Paso really appreciate the help, and it's another chance to show them that the hot rod community as a whole cares. I wonder if the foo-foo wine crowd or bicycle tours that visit the town would do the same? Hope so...

Brew-

Maybe they'll remodel the "Stardust" or the beautiful "Melody Ranch"
It would be nice to not sleep on a fleabag matress for $150 a night.
Actually, its the downtown that really got rocked. They need the help most.
I've received one check so far, so thanks!

I dont think the trees lodge was damaged, would take a bulldozer or ar fire to bring that place down.

There was another one this morning. 3.5 I think. No reports on damage yet.

I just looked it up. 3.8, 9 miles nnw of Templeton. Funny how they locate those things. That would be 4 mile nnw of Paso. Hadn't heard about this until now and I slept thru it.

Downtown update. Two of the three buildings to be demolished have been done so. Still blocked off for now. I could see the street opening back up pretty soon. This is on the northside of the park. Both corner building at that T-intersection have been removed. The other building is part of the Paso Inn. It's the large brick building on Spring next to the old Shell station. Still fenced off with no signs of removal yet.

The hot spring in the Library parking lot is still a large open hole. This picture is looking towards the Paso Inn.

Thanks Chris- I got your check.

If there's anybody else willing to donate, even a little bit, it would really mean a lot to the folks in Paso Robles. It also shows how much car people really do care!

Thanks,

jay
