View Full Version : Is it the way to go?
Is a Muncie the right (ie best) gearbox to use for a 60's styled rod?
One has come up for sale with no bellhousing or shifter.

Sure...Muncies were around from at least the mid-late 60s...with Saginaws before that.
If you're runnin' a Chevy motor, it'd be a natural choice.
Thats great thanks.
My list of things to buy is growing.
Gearbox - Muncie
Engine - Early SBC (although I'd love a hemi)
Chassis - Custom made bare 27 T frame
Body - Hopefully the steel 27 coupe with the roof cut off thats for sale
Wheels - Radirs or ARE's or similar
Front end - MorDrop on hairpins
rear end - early 9 inch, 12 bolt GM or late 50's early 60's olds
Thats the list so far, only a few more things to think of like brakes, and steering http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you are bucks-down, the Saginaw four speed is worth a look. The ones out of Vegas have a wide-ratio gearset that gives a lot of dig in the lower gears, even with a highway-ratio rear gear. On a street-driven hot rod, that is a valuable compromise.
Saginaw like late 70's Monza's and the like?
Thanks for the tip
