Far from perfection, but these are the first flames I have ever layed out. I took an old craftsman toolbox that belonged to my grandfather, than my dad, and dow mine, and covered it in blue masking tape, and hand drew out the flames, then cut it with a razor blade. I was concerned the paint would bleed a bit under the tape, but since I put the white base coat on in many very light coats, the tape came off, with a very sharp line. Not the best, but for a few rattlecans, it turned out better than I expected. Next I gotta get a pinstriping brush and try my hand at outlining them.

I got a couple of Desk Top Art Work little cars done this week.
First up is a 55 Chevy 4 door wagon, which is # 59. It has a small block motor under the removable hood. It was ordered for as a Christmas present. A few weeks ago I did a 56 Chevy race car and it wasn't too bad, I can tell you this one was a struggle. Although the "simple" body lines of the tri-five Chevy's might have been easy for GM, it was a bitch to get even close to right in the size and with the equipment I have. I don't predict many (other then the two additional ones already ordered) coming from me.
The next one up is a dirt track modified sedan. This one, # 60, was also ordered as a Christmas present.
A few weeks ago I built a Modified coupe Art Work for a guy in WI. Like all of my recent Art Work cars, that one was sent out in bare steel. When the guy got it home he (or some one he knows) painted it to look like his actual restored modified race car. Yesterday he sent me pictures of the Desk Top Art Work in its painted condition. Who ever did the detail painting on this one is an artist also. The last two pictures are of the Desk Top Art Work Butch recieved in its bare steel form.

I was going thru my grandparents basement this week. My grandfather is not long for this world, and I was helping clean out some stuff. Anyways, I found this in a shoebox. My Dad built it as a kid. Pretty cool. I think my boy and I are going to restore it.
Check out the Sinners logo on the back, and the felt interior!
Oh, and note the remarkable similarity to what I am currently building!

Dude is that a prostetic(sp) leg? That completely rocks....
Actually it's a pair of prosthetic arms made of carbon fibre. They were brought to me last night to be painted by their owner. He is(or was)a telephone lineman who inadvertantly grabbed hold of a live 7600 volt wire and lived to tell about it.Both of his arms were burnt off just below the elbows. This just happened last May and these are the first set of protheses he's had.
He figures if people are going to stare at him he should give them something to stare at so he decided to have flames painted on them to symbolize how he lost them. He's only 25 but he's got a great attitude and I think he's going to do just fine.
He told me he didn't want to spend a whole lot as money has been a bit tight of late and I told him as far as I was concerned they were already paid for.

I gotta say it's nice to see some diversity in this weeks art show. No offense, after looking at pin-striping for so long, it's hard for me to tell them apart. Dig the Cyanotypes and Holga stuff too.

Thanks for the compliments. I've seen some of Edward Gorey's stuff but don't know much about it. I don't tend to keep up with other art/artists much and I feel I miss out on a lot. I think I'm in the process of cowriting a children's book about a dog and a hot rod. We'll see what happens.
I would like to thank Milo the truck dog for my inspiration.
Gene,
4 more of your (mine now) cars arrived yesterday and they are awesome. I can't wait to see the others. I swear that you are getting better with each car. At this rate, I expect them to have running engines by next year. Great job. Also, everyone else excellent art this week as usual.
