Hey there,

Got some little and superficial rust spots on my car and since I'm not painting it this year, I'd like to keep these spots from getting any worse. My car is painted with factory laquer.

Most of the spots in question are little less than dime sized or smaller. I noticed that Eastwood has something called rust encapsulator and then there's POR 15. If I use this stuff will it be a huge pain in the ass later when I go to paint? Anything I need to know?

I'm looking for a product, (clear color preferred) that can be painted on with a small brush in spots.

Use Rust Bullet, sold by fellow hamber Kroozn1... its metallic gray colored, but it is easily sanded when you get ready to paint. It actually kills the rust and there is no prep other than brushing away the loose stuff.

I use POR15 for most of this kind of stuff, haven't had any problems with prepping over top of it. As a matter of fact the rear fenders on my truck are painted with POR15 cause I didn't want them to rust anymore...

POR15 does not have uv protection in it , you can buy buy a top coat from them that has it unless they have changed in the last 6 mos . Eastwoods stuff is the same i use .Comes in black or red oxide. The eastwood stuff can be topcoated w/ just about anything .Very tuff stuff . Nothing i know is CLEAR .Bill hearsh also has a product but do not get any on you or your wearing it for a long time . Same w/ the eastwood stuff .good luck

Can that rust bullett be used on the whole body? My whole truck is covered in surface rust and was thinking of using a product like that on it. Will it work, can it be painted over afterwards? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Stacey, Enjenjo here on the HAMB is a Rust Bullet distributor. I bought a quart from him, I believe it was $30. He might sell it in pints too. Email him at

thebullet@roddingroundtable.com

Good directions on the can and Frank (Enjenjo) is only an email away if you have any questions.

Por 15 does come in clear according to their website and they sell it in a starter kit small quantity for $15. Not sure about the Eastwood stuff.

I'm not sure about Rust Bullet, never tried it, but Corroless/Eastwood Rust Encapsulator is FANTASTIC. It's expensive, but worth it. Comes in 3 colors now too.

Before winter hit I prepped the right side rockers and floor of my car by wirewheeling 90% of the rust off, scrubbing it clean as I could get, and spraying it with Rustoleum. I did the left side and left floor with Corroless later on once it had gotten too cold to spraypaint.

The Rustoleum is holding off the rust better than it would've fared had I not done anything to it, but it's still got rust encroaching all over it. Frankly I'm not impressed by it at all, regular primer probably wouldn't have been any worse.

The corroless on the other hand has held up flawlessly. The driver's side floor was corroded to hell, with a few holes too. I just scraped it a little bit with a handheld wire brush and cleaned the dirt off. Every day I drag a ton of salty snow in there and the rubber floor mat doesn't do much to hold it off, but there is NO rust coming through at all. Not even on the sharp jagged edges around the holes.

Zero Rust is probably just as good as corroless, but there's a lot more prep involved.

Auto Restorer magazine did a comparison about two months ago between POR 15 and the Eastwood stuff. Eastwood came out on top. I haven't used either, and know nothing about the Rust Bullet, just passing on what seemed to be an unbiased proffesional oppinion.

check out the floor of my buddy Rick's 65 Coronet he is building... it actually made it stronger. It looks like bare metal now. You can use it on whole cars... Carl Kroozn1 used it on a Bonneville racer last year.

This is Carl's website... he and enjenjo both sell the stuff..
