after lookin' through the 'How Many Cars You Got?' post, it reminded me of my ill-fated foray into TLC's. years back I made the bone-headed manuever into this cul-de-sac of 4WD and have a couple of examples to prove it sitting idle in Minneapolis, a '66 FJ40 with a 327 and a '85 FJ60 with a bad hit to the right front thanks to the Xwife, though it still runs.

I can't be the only foolish soul to tussle with these goofy beasts, and I'd like to shine 'em on.

where, what and whom do you think would be a good place to list these miscreants for sale? I'd hold onto them but have opted instead to hit myself in the temple with a ball-peen hammer occasionally- same outcome.

whatchoo think? thanks a bunch in advance...

I never owned one, but I always liked those old Land Cruisers. I owned a '69 Bronco for about 12 years, kinda similar vehicles, 200 6cyl, three speed. Not very powerful, but it would crawl over just about anything. It was a great old heap and I had a blast bombing around the back country of CA and AZ in it.

I kinda got bored with it toward the end and traded it straight across for my '57 Ranch Wagon. Good trade I think.

very good trade indeed! always wanted a Bronco.

truly, these TLC things when running right are unstoppable. in the Mpls snow I could pretty much guarantee making it to the store for smokes no matter how much snow piled up. there's no snow here.

Can't help ya, but I once crank called Toyota and claimed that I read on the Internet that the Land Cruiser was going to be renamed "EARTH SMASHER".

Customer service reps have to take every call seriously, so long story short, the woman assured that it was not true. I played it totally straight and told her that I thought it was an offensive name. She agreed. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That was about 3 years ago, and given the current SUV craze, it doesn't sound like such a bad name anymore. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Hey! I really like Cruisers! I'm building one right now!
TOTALLY rebuilt frame + full boxing, full cage,Chevy power steering,SBC/T350 home adapted to the early T-case and 3.70 axle assemblies with rear DIY Disc brakes! I even built the body tub.
Should be out this spring...I'm at it steadily now.
I was gonna sell it and get right to the coupe but my eldest son...man, he nearly passed out when I mentioned selling it! So.....what do ya do? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Anyway...just try this place (http://www.IH8MUD.com) They have a classified section and seem to have a large readership.
Worth a shot!

I shouldn't have looked at that site.... here's mine. I've since repainted it Landlord Green. it looks just about as rough now, though.

Put an ad in the MN4wd ass'n or MN toyota 4x4s newsletter- maybe you can do it on line.
If ya would sold them junkers years ago you could have tiny extra wide gold plated whells for your seld by now, and tinted glass and a giant trunk mounted amp

A few years ago I run across one at a mud bash week end with turbo diesel V8 out of a full size truck. In a mild desplay of power this dug it's own hole then dug it's self out, and could also climb a fucking tree if it was asked too!!!! Some engineer type owned it and spent a shit load setting it up for serious 4x4 work, if it didn't have a purpose it wasn't needed, not even a radio....

well dan, if i didn't have about half a dozen too many projects right now, i'd ask you what you wanted for it! would be mucho cooler than the FREE 95 blazer with a blowed up vortec motor i picked up yesterday.

they seem to bring pretty good money in minnesota.

reminds me of a few years back, a good friend of mine borrowed 7 grand for a rusty fj40 with a 350 in it. took me with to look at it, "well its YOUR money" was about all i could say. so he buys it, mind you this is early winter in minnesota, fresh snow, thats why he bought it, so the very first night, him driving his first 4x4, seeing what it can do, and a LC on 35's and a 350 can go thru some shit! cept he wasn't smart enough to realize when the snow in the vally turns perfectly flat, that probably means you are on ice, so i says"you don't wanna be here you're gonna get stuck" so what does he do? he stops. and we sink into several feet of frigid water. they can't drive out of 3 feet of water ice and snow. dumbass. course i won't mention ME getting a stone stock chevy truck stuck going to save him...

Ray,
ha! that sounds familiar....I took my first TLC over to my old high school in the middle of a blizzard at midnight and tore all over the campus like a crazyman. yes, you do NOT want to stop when you're up to that type of bad fun. so I stopped, and dang near didn't get myself loose. got us hung up sideways on a 45 degree slope into the athletic field. whoopsy! explain that to Willie The Catholic High School Groundskeeper.

TLC's seem to attract some bent characters....my younger brother sold his sliding-into-oblivion FJ55 wagon to a fellow who later covered it in roofing tar to keep aliens from reading his mind while he drove. that one ended up in a frozen pond up north somewhere, never to be seen again.

There are a couple of guys that hang out at my bar that own something like 8 Land Crushers between them. They love the damn things. I'll put in a good word for you.

We call 'em Gland Bruisers around these parts, or are those Land Rovers? My ex brother in law was a Land Cruiser fanatic, he had a gorgeous yellow one. I must say I've got a soft spot for 'em too, but I understand they're slower than hell.

Me, if I were to have a Toyota it would be a 2000GT, like in the James Bong movies.
