I was standing in the pits at about 1/2 track when I hear it comin. I was b.s. ing with Sodbuster or his dad with my back to the track when I hear it shut off...turn around to see the car about 3/4 sideways, 30 feet from me. He got it pointed in the right direction again and stabbed the loud pedal again....my heartbeat went up about 75 beats! It ran pretty good..was a local guy.

There was a late 70's, early 80's full size Dodge shortbox with a pumped 440 running mid-high 10's! I think he was "on the bottle".....sounded like a de-stroked 289 ford on acid...man! That guy wound up that big block mopar!

When it was looking like there was not going to be many at the drags, I invited some of the locals that I see at cruise nights. I think the ones that showed will be on the HAMB soon or are already lurking. The green early 50's Olds was another. I was hoping that everyone got a chance to talk to him. He has his entry to run at Bonneville for 1952 and a lot of other neat stuff. At the drags he showed me an original copy of the NASCAR drag rules for 1966. The Olds has a built Olds engine with two fours and everything on it dating to the 50's hooked to a 3 speed trans with trick gears.

The orange Crosley was another. I do not know that most of you picked up on the age of the driver. He is 14 years old and he did a great job. The car was built by him and his dad in their home garage.

The orange Crosley that WZ Junk is talking about was called Cool Hand Luke, named after that 14 year old drivin' it. I believe his dad owns both the Crosley and the read coupe above. They were all under the same tent and they were the first ones I met on Saturday morning. I slept out "under the stars" and this guy was doing test runs in the pits. Damn kids and their hot rods!!!

The Dodge pickup that Rocky is talking about was only ther on Friday night. I asked him what he was running and he said it was a 400 block with a 440 crank, or something. He was running high 11's on the bottle.
