Some Imperial type told me they were called "Sit-up-and-beg-Fords". Really. Huh??
By the way, the current issue of the big glossy English old car magazine has a decent article on Anglias and relatives. Can't think of name of mag--says "Ford 8 and 10" or some such on cover.
Ooh man, a pet peeve of mine.
It drives me nuts when people ask me "Is that an Angela grille in your car?"
And I reply, "No it's an AN GLEE UH grille."
And they reply "That's what I said."
Actually in the home of their birth they were called Populars or 'sit up and begs' the Anglia line came later.

This is how my lil' brother pronounces it with a 1961 dialect....says he's gonna run 9's with this one....Our own "Lockjaw" helped in the build at his shop...thanks!
Ang-Leer.
When I was a kid I always struggled with "Popular" It always came out as "pop-leer"
(Rhymes with Draclia)
"Sit up and beg" is sometimes used too.
