if it was that EXACT car ai would leave it stock
I would put it on e-bay and buy a shitbox that I wouldn't feel guilty taking a saw to. Then I would use the remaining money for hot rod parts, or maybe a robot.
Probably a robot.

That first pic looks like something my Dad would like (he's 80).
Since yours doesn't look like that then you've got a pretty clean slate to work from. Yes, mild custom. Get it low. If you're gonna remove the rear handles, then remove them all. Don't try to phoney it up to look like a 2 door. If you're gonna run skirts then get it lower in the rear. I would consider it without skirts, I think they make the car look longer, you can always add them later. Oh, and full wheel covers.
And no visor! Same thing, it makes the car look too long.
Ok, these are just my thoughts and opinions. Have fun with it.

I have the skirts, came with the car so no money lost there if I don't like them.

yeah, that car is no where near as nice as it looks in those pictures. The paint is old, body is wavy, you can see where the bondo is, the chrome isn't as nice as it looks there either, not really any rust, but no where near worth what he was asking for it like a year or so ago when I looked at it.

dude, when did you "suede up" your 56? never seen it like that, looks cool. I like your purple scallop rendering alot. Full wheel covers are a good idea. Nice car.

I would have to agree with donzie. Get it on the ground, maybe a little higher in front, full wheel covers or chrome reverse. and some wide whites. no skirts, it already has a decently cool shape to the opening. That's what I personally would do to it. I would also do it glossy. But it's all time and money.

That looks cool with the blue! And you can use the Flat blue that Krylon sells. We painted THOM's wagon (green) with it and it turned out great. Maybe a white roof would look good too.

Here's a good looking tire/wheel combo. It's on Alleycat's car. I'm not saying you should copy it (then you would be a "Copycat") but it might give you some ideas.

MaiKiKi's blue version and Donzie's purple flake roof both look REALLY good. If I were you, I would go for the blue version. Like Django said, you could do it all in rattle cans on the cheap and keep driving it. When it fades, you can do it over completely differently in another rattle can job.

Mai Ki-Ki that car is awesome. Some of the things you guys do with a picture amaze me. It looks like I still need to practice.
Does anybody use Paintshop Pro to edit pics? I could use some tips and pointers especially on chopping and custom paint.

just bouncing ideas..can you do this???
Paint: I like Mai Ki-Ki's flat blue
Scallops: use the side trim and scallops of mine but use Mai Ki-Ki's color idea for the scallops.
Grill: I really like Mai Ki-Ki's grill, but I'd hate to fabricate it and try and hide the parking lights. I was thinking of blacking out the grill verticals and removing some horizontals (maybe every other one??) to give a similar look. Also blacking out the flat areas behind the parking lights and keeping the edges chrome.
Thoughts... ideas???
Django

blacking out part of the grill is an inexpensive option. The grill on my '67 chevell has all the vertical bars blacked out and you don't really notice them.
As for scallops, if your bondo areas are bad and you do scallops to recreate the trim shapes, you're going to be calling alot of attention to the very area that you don't want people to notice. Food for thought...
CLSSY56

I've got the trim, just don't have the clips yet, therefore bondo would be under the trim http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Not that hard to build a tube grill (aka straight bar grille)...use 1/2" round rod or electrical conduit, cut to fit, build two uprights per side and out of same material, use long sheet metal screws or self-tappers to hold the bars on. Move the park lites back and put the bars over the top..paint the housings flat black so you'll never seen them...

Grilles can be simple...heres mine...just 3 lengths of chromed towel rail...pinched ends to fit stock end pieces....will be replaced with sld bars one day with a kink in the middle...but looks ok for now....Just move the indicators back out of sight..they'll still light up enough thru chrome tubes.

chopping is cheap when you do it yourself! its the motor and drivetrain that adds up way too fast.

No need to photo shop it to get my 2 cents. Already a lot of good ideas.
I've always thought that a mild custom more door ought to have the rear doors suicided. Relativly simple mod. on a shaved ride it isn't real obvious until you open the back. Then its a splap me silly what in the hell is that, mod.
Also makes it easier to get into the back seat.

Here's my idea
1. Put in a request for a HAMB chop
2. Drop it as low as you can stand
3. Shave the handles
4. Powdercoat the wheels black rather than red, and put some wide, wide whites on it.
5. Throw a fresh coat of primer on and some really bad ass'd chalky white seaweed flames
That would make for one evil looking car.

I've finally figured out WHY you like that restored '56 Chev pic...every one one of the photoshopped paint jobs you've done, or others have done for you (other than the one by Monster) are all DARK colors...including this last one you did...the restored '56 has light colors on teh body...that allows the car to "open" up instead of being all closed up and made to look smaller...dark colors will do that...for any car. Just my 13 cents...

I don't know if that's 100% right. I think so far my favorite is the last one I did. I do also like restored cars though, however my last 4 door 56 was suppose to be Laurel Green and Crocus Yellow, which only on certain cars looks right (not the 4 door sedan)... I'm looking for a soft yet strong color combo that I can do myself, and I know I can't do body work very well.... but rattle cans I can do http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif i think http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Forget the stock two tone, IMO. You spent all that time to mud the sides. Are the holes still there? It doesn't look like it in the pic. 95% of all the Tri-Five chevys have the stock side trim. Be different.

Damn, I like that http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Is that flat black or blue?
No the holes are still there. Where the trim was, it pitted the steel, I don't know how to fix that, but plan on stripping the car down little by little. I guess I'd use bondo or a glaze to fill in the pits.
