Intro

Hi All - Want to introduce myself so I can get more involved. My name is Tim, 33 yrs old, have 2 girls (4 & 2), and an understanding wife. We live in Folsom, CA, right near the prison, as in the “Folsom Prison Blues” (no blues here though). A friend recommended the HAMB to me and I’ve been watching for a bit. My interests are in the traditional hot rods and classics. I have never built one completely before, but I’m learning. For the past ten years I have been very fortunate to have a father-in-law who is both very knowledgeable and quite connected. In the last four years he has helped me put together a ‘53 chevy 1ton flatbed and we started putting together an early Falcon for my dad. Neither project was fully completed. Last year my father-in-law called up and said he had a new project for me, a ‘23 Dodge roadster. So the truck was sold to help fund the new project. As usual money is always the issue (I have none) and the “No Bux Special” was born. The car consists of a Dodge chassis and body, small block Chevy 350 w/powerglide trans, a Ford F-1 rear end and a knock-off ’32 grill. The parts have come from my father-in-laws collections and trading with friends. Many favors have been called in from my father-in-law to get parts and pieces; I owe a lot of people great thanks. I could go on and on about the people helping on the project, but will save it for a better time. The car is nearly street worthy; the finishing touches will be in my hands. What I like most about the car is that to me it is a true traditional hot rod; you know, the kid who doesn’t have much scraps together something to go tear it up every once in a while. I owe all the thanks to my father-in-law and his house guest (a fellow HAMBer – ThirtyTwo) as they have put in a majority of the work for me. ThirtyTwo did the entire assembly of the chassis and I owe him big. They have taught me a lot in building these cars and I’m feeling a bit dangerous, however, the one lesson I learn every time is, I DON’T KNOW JACK. I hope to learn more from the HAMB and maybe contribute as things go along. Sorry so long.

Nice intro Tim. Those roadsters are a cool body style. Exhaust seem a little over the top.Do you have good hearing? You won't after ten miles with those ringing in you ears. Just a freindly thought. Looks good. Keep it up.

The pipes are off my father-in-laws hardtop. They were on for initial firing of the motor. I'm having similar headers put together but they point down. They look something like this...

that 3 two manifold was and is still a consideration for this car. Problem with it is I don't think I can keep the HEI distributor if I use it. It too is a part of my father-in-laws collection of goodies.

You can't keep the large-body HEI with most tripowers but I wouldn't worry to hard. Points work good and so do the many external-coil electronic conversions. I'm running an Ignitor on my 327 and it works just grand - soon I'll be adding tripower.

Good intro, nice car, never saw one like it before, good to see something different. I'm an old guy, the older I get the more I realize how little I know. Learn something here every day. Dump the HEI so you can use the 3x2 setup, they look cool.

tim is being a little modest, hes going to have a lot of work ahead of him!!!, all i have done is the basic chassis setup (the shiney black stuff)and welded the floor in...him and his father-in-law are doing the rest ,the crap i hate brake lines and all the piddley stuff.... what he lacks in knowledge he makes up for in smarts and ambition, we threw him in the deep end first.... hes going to learn to swim one way or another http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks. We took about four inches out of the doorway to shorten the body up a bit. The cab is huge in those things.
